Our Head of Accounting services is a key leadership position in the company, reporting to the company president. The Head of Accounting services is responsible for the successful delivery of Accounting services across the organization. The Head of Accounting services will oversee a team of bookkeepers and their work as well as oversee high-level accounting for a handful of key clients. This person will work closely with the company president, account managers and company bookkeepers to ensure client success.
Our ideal candidate has 7+ years of bookkeeping/accounting experience using QuickBooks, and is highly skilled in working as the leader of a team.

Advanced bookkeeping skills:
- 7+ years proven bookkeeping experience across various industries
- Solid understanding of advanced bookkeeping and accounting principles
- Proven ability to calculate, post and manage accounting figures and financial records
- Demonstrated ability to set up accounting systems from scratch
- Accrual accounting experience with eep revenue and expense recognition principles required
- Advanced job costing and inventory experience
- GAAP knowledgeable
- Balance sheet development and preparation
- Perform month/quarter/year-end closing and oversight
- Equity/partnership accounting
- Technical depth and proficiency with QBO and ability to train
- Troubleshooting and correcting bookkeeping errors
- Ability to perform advanced general journal entries
- Use of zero-sum transactions when appropriate
- Use of clearing accounts with correct allocation
- Financial report preparation
Client Management:
- Responds swiftly to client communications and needs, and proactively maintains connection with the client, focused on helping the client reach their goals.
- Completes or reviews monthly close and monthly financial reports, and delivers them with comments to the client, on schedule.
- Monitors for scope creep and offers solutions when necessary.
- Looks for opportunities to increase value to the client and offers layered solutions.
- Takes ownership of the client relationship and is on the front lines of creating and maintaining that partnership.
- Calls in support from management or other team members if necessary.
People management:
- Managing a team of up to 10 bookkeepers toward successful outcomes
- Overseeing, correcting/consulting on the bookkeeping of others
- Providing learning, mentoring and growth opportunities to junior bookkeepers, ensuring client managers are supported with quality work and productive interactions with clients.
- Consulting with clients and account leads and advising on best practices.
- Working with company leadership to develop and implement performance metrics.
- Assessing performance of direct reports based on established metrics and company values.
Process management:
- Providing accounting oversight to company clients
- Managing client bookkeeping workflows
- Identifying areas for efficiencies and improvement
- Establishing and implementing best financial practices for clients, including A/R, A/P, payroll, etc. with the goal of having a positive impact on the client’s business and ability to scale.
- Participates in defining workflows and processes and working toward the company’s goals and objectives.
Qualifications & Skills:
Education: Bachelor’s or Associate's degree or advanced bookkeeping certification(s) preferred.
Experience: A minimum of seven years bookkeeping and oversight experience
Skills: Seek continuous improvement and always think of a better way to get things done. Strong interpersonal skills and ease with both telephone and in-person communication. Strong organizational and time-management skills, including ability to keep track of the needs and tasks for multiple clients, and to handle multiple clients, priorities and tasks on any given day.
Proficiencies:
- QuickBooks - Quickbooks ProAdvisor Advanced Certification required within 30 days of hire
- CRM/workflow software
- POS software - Shopify, Square, Stripe, PayPal
- G-Suite (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides).
- Ability to work independently but also within a team environment.
Compensation:
- Annual salary paid semi-monthly
- Health benefits with company contribution
- 15 days of Paid Time Off (PTO), which will be accrued in equal increments with each semi-monthly payroll after the completion of 30 days of employment. Full 2 weeks achieved after 120 days of employment. Add’l day for each year of employment.
- Eight paid holidays each year (office closed)
- Paid invitation (travel included) to QuickBooks Connect Conference annually
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $75,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
