- Position Summary: We are a growing consulting firm actively seeking innovative, motivated and talented Hazard Mitigation Planning Specialists to join our team of experts.
- Your work as an HM Planning Specialist will make a real difference as you support the Disaster Recovery team with various tasks, including providing technical assistance to the client in relation to the FEMA regulations associated with Hazard Mitigation.
- This position will interact with all levels of management, field personnel, etc., and requires executive presence, and strong verbal and written communication skills.
- We are looking for motivated, responsible, and confident individuals with a commitment to integrity and the ability to prioritize multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work collaboratively with minimal supervision.
- Responsibilities include:Coordinate the collection of information from local communities to support local hazard mitigation plans.
- Coordinate with county and local municipal officials to communicate requirements of local hazard mitigation plans.
- Review historical data related to weather events and associated damages to inform risk assessment.
- Coordinate with and support DHSES staff, DHSES partners (UAlbany) and identified consultant staff leading local hazard mitigation plans currently in-development to ensure requirements are being met.
- Use local hazard mitigation planning tools in development with DHSES/UAlbany to document complete information.
- Assist DHSES Mitigation Planning staff with continued development of tools/guidance for hazard mitigation plans.
- Assist DHSES Mitigation Planning staff with integrating local hazard mitigation planning best practices into the State Hazard Mitigation Plan. Other responsibilities may include:Review of Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plans for compliance with state and federal requirements.
- Assist with finalizing review process and developing guidance/training material for full-time reviewers.
- Provide input/feedback on in-development web-based plans.
- Review and provide input to our State Hazard Mitigation Plan updates/initiatives to support our Enhanced State Hazard Mitigation Plan. Required Education and Experience:Must have at least 2 years’ experience in Hazard Mitigation PlanningMust have comprehensive understanding of 44 CFR Part 201 – Mitigation Planning.
- Must have excellent verbal/written communication skills.
- While GIS expertise is not required, must have a basic understanding of mapping technology and how it is used for planning.
- Experience with land use planning, emergency management, floodplain management, preferred.
