Handyworker

HANDYWORKER, Haystack Observatory, to perform minor activities of the trades, such as painting, masonry, carpentry, rigging, snow removal, and equipment and furniture moving. Will also drive a forklift and light vehicles, make pickups and deliveries, maintain grounds and lawns, make minor road repairs, and perform related duties of similar complexity as assigned. In addition to the normal duties associated with the handyworker position, will also be expected to perform duties related to environmental hazards. This will include assisting with environmental hazard containment, clean-up, and related activities; conducting periodic and random inspections related to spill prevention, plumbing fixtures, fire pumps, fire extinguishers, eyewash stations, emergency telephone system, and vehicles; monitoring/administering hazardous waste control, removal, and compliance; and maintaining records and databases.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: good general computer skills; attention to detail; a valid driver’s license; ability to perform duties described above; willingness and ability to climb towers; good all-around mechanical skills for performing minor repairs; ability to speak, read, and understand the English language; and willingness to obtain and maintain forklift and hoist licenses.
