DESCRIPTION: Under direct supervision of the Recreation Coordinator II - Sports and Fitness and the Recreation Center Supervisor, this position aids in a number of recreation roles including summer programming; providing friendly service to patrons; assisting with facility walkthroughs and supervision. This position will work in many areas of the facility and will be expected to perform as a high functioning team member. Expected to be committed to the department motto, doing "whatever it takes" for the success of the team and department, including performing other related duties as assigned.
CLASSIFICATION: This is a temporary, part-time, hourly position with no benefits. Position expected to work up to 29 hours per week for approximately 10 weeks between May 29th and approximately August 4th. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills and other characteristics.
This list is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY, and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by incumbents of this classification. May provide backup duties related to other departmental positions as needed. TASKS: Plan, develop and execute programming for teen aged groups ages 11--17.
Ability to form positive relationships with teen demographic and be able to provide behavior management (redirection) of teen patrons within the facility. Create and execute intra mural sports and activities for teens that provide direction and engagement well using the REC. Recommends appropriate activities for interests.
Provides instruction for patrons in proper use of facilities. Performs daily programs and games throughout the week to help provide structure and oversight for teen users of the REC and other facilities. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Skill in developing and maintaining effective interpersonal relations.
Skill in interacting with the general public in a positive, engaging and educational manner. Skill in various intra-mural sports such as basketball, ping pong, Mario Kart and other forms of bracket style tournaments. Knowledge of the policies and procedures of the department Skill in conducting research, interpreting data, and drawing conclusions.
Skill in providing effective working relationships with the following: fellow employees, officials, volunteers, other department employees, various agencies, service organizations and the general public. Skill in written and verbal communication. Ability to remain organized.
Ability to operate under stressful conditions. PHYSICAL AND VISUAL REQUIREMENTS: Sufficient to effectively and safely perform required duties. This classification involves work in a fitness center setting that requires physical effort.
This classification may require lifting weights up to 100lbs for short distances and re-racking weights on the fitness floor. It also requires the ability to participate in physically engaging activities and sports such as basketball, pickleball, tennis, swimming etc. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Must have or be actively working towards a high school diploma, or its equivalent.
Must be able to proficiently demonstrate the ability to perform all tasks to an acceptable level, as determined by a supervisor, within six months of hire.
