Position Title: Ground Support Equipment Mechanic

Work Location: Joint Base Charleston, South Carolina

Summary: Advantage SCI has an opportunity for a Ground Support Equipment (GSE) Mechanic to provide services for our government customer. The successful candidate will diagnose malfunctions and repairs, scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, inspect, test, and operate GSE to determine equipment serviceability and proper operation.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on GSE
  • Inspect, test, troubleshooting malfunctions of GSE using conventional and digital multi-meters, voltmeters, ohmmeters, frequency counters, oscilloscopes, circuit card testers, transistor testers, and hand tools
  • Prepares GSE for storage and transportation
  • Uses automated maintenance data systems to maintain equipment records, and documents maintenance actions; completes maintenance tickets and repair orders in a timely manner
  • Maintain maintenance records and documentation in accordance with government regulations and local policies. Tests, and operates GSE to determine equipment serviceability and proper operation
  • Disassembles and assembles malfunctioning GSE accessories and components
  • Diagnoses, analyzes, and troubleshoots GSE malfunctions and repairs problems; troubleshoots, traces and locates defects and/or causes of mechanical problems to determine type and extent of necessary repairs
  • Inspects and tests equipment for mechanical defects, and replaces worn parts
  • Removes replaces, adjusts, or cleans defective parts or components
  • Follows government and system procedures such as Technical Manuals in the performance of duties
  • Uses hand tools, power tools, wrenches, jacks, and hydraulic equipment daily also may be required to operate a forklift
  • Interacts with customers to keep them informed of status of equipment, repairs needed, etc.
  • Identifies necessary parts, equipment and supplies needed to complete repair or preventative check
  • Ensures safety in the workplace to prevent accidents and damage to government equipment
  • Properly use, store, account for, and dispose of hazardous materials and waste used and generated in the performance of duties. Comply with all federal, state, and local regulations and procedures for handling and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned or requested
Experience and Skills

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Education

  • Minimum of four (4) years' experience in direct relevant work listed in duties
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Certificate of training or completion of training from vocational school or other recognized source in electrical or mechanical
  • In lieu of formal course work, a combination of college credits, certifications, on-the-job training, other formalized training, or experience may be considered
  • Possess a current, valid state driver's license
  • Must successfully complete a background check and be able to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC)
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen
  • Must be able to successfully pass a National Agency Check (NAC) within 60 days of hire if required
  • Must be able to provide copy of COVID vaccination or have a reasonable accommodation or approved medical exception
  • Able to speak, read, write, and understand English fluently
  • Have licensed and registered and current inspection for reliable transportation to work
  • Ability to comply with all established environmental regulations, methods, quality standards, and time schedules applicable to this position
  • Ability to interpret and apply technical instruction, schematics, and diagrams
  • Excellent working knowledge of safety standards for GFE mechanical and electrical systems
  • Considerable knowledge of the standard tools, equipment, test procedures and practices used in repair and preventative maintenance
  • Ability to diagnose mechanical and related malfunctions
  • Ability to write routine correspondence, maintenance logs and order forms
  • Ability to operate a forklift, power tools, wrenches, diagnostic equipment, and jacks
  • Willing to work weekends and other hours if needed
  • Will comply with company and customer security, safety and other plant/facility/installation regulations while performing services on customer premises.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • Shop or warehouse environment may be required to inspect and perform duties outside in cold and hot environments
  • Medium to high noise levels
  • Frequent lifting to 20lbs, lifting up to 35lbs, team lifting up to 50lbs
  • Constant standing, stooping, kneeling, crawling and walking
  • May require using and wearing personal protective equipment such as, hearing and eye protection, hard hat, and steel-toed boots
