The General Manager - Trucking is an opportunity for an entrepreneurial leader to establish & build a trucking company in support of ND Paper and third party's transportation needs. This position will require creativity & leadership to establish company trucks, and contractor trucks, within our mill regions of operation (Wisconsin, Illinois, West Virginia, Maine). An entrepreneur's dream exists in this role, in this venture, with the expectation to scale this trucking company to become a world class organization.
The position is one requiring a hands-on leader willing to set up new trucking terminals to support the evolving needs of the corporation.
The General Manager will work under the direction of the Sr. VP of Supply Chain Operations. This is a full-time salaried position. The hours of the position will be 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM.
Job Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate safety as a core value and establish a safe work environment by actively leading the safe execution of work
- Establish the foundation of a trucking company: ensuring compliance to all regulations & safety standards, recruit drivers, and optimize cost structure to ensure profitable organization
- Lead recruiting of truck drivers & terminal management to meet business demand
- Identify opportunities within our mill system to insource transportation needs
- Source third party trucking business to improve company profitability
- Manage and review P&L statements to monitor and adjust for business performance
- Provide oversight and guidance to dispatchers and safety teams
- Develop metrics to ensure trucking division efficiency & profitability
- Ensure the safety & regulatory structure is in place for a healthy trucking operation
- Select the right transportation equipment leading to maximum value: reliability, cost, and safety
- Continually drive costs out of the system through reviewing performance related to miles, yields, modes, negotiated rates

Required Experience:
- AA or AS in Logistics, Business, or related field
- Experience in establishing and leading trucking terminals in regions where ND Paper operates (5 years + leading trucking terminal a minimum)
- High degree of flexibility to a changing business environment
- Willingness to "roll up your sleeve" to establish this business
- Highly motivated with a positive attitude and excellent teamwork/leadership skills.
- Experience in costing trucking routes to ensure balance of competitiveness and profitability
- Commitment to learn & develop skillset into becoming a leader
- Strong negotiation skills
- Strong analytical skills
- Experience in SAP and Mercury Gate preferred
- Experience in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
