About Us:

The mission of The Adjutant General's Department Fire and Emergency Services is to respond to airport/aircraft rescue and firefighting emergencies with commitment, integrity and teamwork. What You'll Do:

Works under general supervision while providing work direction and training over assigned shift. Requires considerable knowledge of supervisory principles and techniques, personnel management, emergency fire fighting practices, and fire fighting safety practices and procedures in order to supervise fire team.  

 

  • Develops, implements, and manages the Wing Fire Prevention program under the direction of the Assistant Chief of Training.
  • Establish inspection schedules, conducting and documenting inspections, tracking and reporting deficiencies discovered, and writing policies and procedures.
  • Educates and instructs base populace on methods of fire prevention.
  • Documents, reports, and maintains files of actions associated with all requirements.
  • Inspects tests in accordance with National Fire Protection Association Standards, Department of Defense, Air Force and Air National Guard standards.
  • Manages permit process program.  Conducts routine inspections and develops facility pre-fire plans and emergency evacuation procedures.
  • Verifies code compliance for storage, handling, and use of materials (hazardous materials, flammable/combustible liquids, gases, etc.).
  • Identifies and references applicable code or standard for fire protection, fire prevention, or life safety.
  • Coordinates, assigns, and provides work direction to ensure efficient operations of equipment and fire station.
  • Coordinates training plans and monitors training of Fire Fighters to ensure compliance with Wing and Department policies, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standards, and Department of Defense (DoD) / Air Force (USAF)W / Air National Guard (ANG) policies.
  • Provides assistance to the Assistant Chief of Training and in the absence of the Fire Chief or Assistant Chiefs, directs fire teams in rescue and fire suppression operations.
  • When required  perform duties of the Assistant Fire Chief.
  • Responds and performs the function of Incident Commander at the scene of emergencies.
  • Drives or operates a variety of fire rescue equipment.
  • Maintains files, records and reports; writes performance appraisals.
  • Attend and participate in Department of Defense or agency sponsored and/or ongoing training courses.
  • Attends meetings and seminars
  • Complete a standard work period of 24 hours followed by 48 hours off. Overtime as authorized by an administrative authority.

The following are the minimum qualification for this position.  for consideration, applicants must clearly identify how qualifications are met within the education and/or experience sections of the applications.  The ideal candidate, at miniumu, must meet all of the following:

  • Possess high school diploma or GED
  • Minimum age of 18
  • Valid driver's license
  • Must have successfully completed current entry level National Fire Protection Association 1582 physical
  • Passed entry level agility test
  • Must possess International Fire Service Accreditation Congress, accreditation certification of completion of National Fire Protection Association Fire Fighter I, Fire Fighter II, Driver Operator (e.g., assigned vehicles), Airport Fire Fighter, Fire Officer I, Fire Officer II, Hazardous Materials Awareness & Operational levels, DOD Hazardous Incident Command, Fire Service Instructor I, Fire Inspector I, Fire Service Inspector II.
  • Minimum two years experience as full-time Lieutenant Fire Fighter or equivalent

Based on manpower authorization at selected departments, certification levels may be required to exceed levels listed within & comply with those specified in AFMAN 32-2003, or military or civilian equivalent.

Note: requirements & qualifications are in accordance with NGR-5-1/ANGI-63-101-PARA.36-10.

1582 Physical - If not currently available, must be accomplished prior to appointment.

A Department of Defense certificates must be recognized by International Fire Service Accreditation Congress.
