The Family Health Specialist - Breastfeeding is a committed individual who provides curriculum development and curricular line direction while providing patient and consumer health education and support services to the community in breastfeeding and related topics. This specialist stands as an expert in the field of breastfeeding, providing support for families and individuals as they initiate infant feedings and provides a crucial link to the hospital as families prepare for their transition home.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree with background in nursing, education, health care, or health management
- IBCLC certification or CLC certification and experience working as a lactation specialist with obstetrical patients.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and experience with technology
- Ability to work effectively in a team and group setting. Planning, organizing, and implementing group goals and objectives.
- Self-direction and independence as demonstrated by participation in advanced learning opportunities.
- Experience teaching adult learners, and an understanding of group process and dynamics
- Experience with public speaking, community resources, facilitating support groups
- Applies research and evidence-based practice. Teaching with organizational principles in mind and with an understanding of hospital policies and procedures.
- Able to incorporate different methods of learning into groups, including the use of all types of audio-visual equipment.
- Remains current with all learning applications, evaluations, and meetings throughout the year
- Master of Science in Nursing, Education, Nursing Education, Health Education, health care or related field
- Experience in obstetrics, labor and delivery or postpartum
- Experience with in-person classroom and live-virtual teaching
- Proficiency with Microsoft products and applications (Word, Power Point, Excel, Teams)
- Ability to teach in a variety of settings (classroom, virtually, conference hall, web)
