THE POSITION
Under general supervision, the Facilities Technician performs a variety of semi-skilled work in the maintenance of buildings and associated equipment; performs light electrical, plumbing, air conditioning, mechanical, and carpentry related repairs and maintenance; performs other work as required.
Examples of Duties
Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
- . Tests electrical circuitry, appliances, and equipment for failure; diagnoses cause of failure; replaces worn parts; changes light bulbs and ballast
- . Makes minor repairs to existing plumbing, e.g., clears clogged drains; may test and locate problems and replace defective parts of plumbing systems such as valves, faucets, and fixtures; cleans out obstructions in pipe systems
- . Performs preventive maintenance and filter changes on heating or air conditioning units and makes small repairs
- . Performs minor carpentry duties, such as repairs to doors, and installs related hardware
- . Performs other repairs as required

FACILITIES TECHNICIAN
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma, or GED equivalent.
EXPERIENCE
Two (2) years of full-time (or equivalent) experience in general facilities/building maintenance/repair (e.g. carpentry, plumbing and electrical work) of commercial properties.
EDUCATION SUBSTITUTION
Education from an accredited college or university in a trade or industrial technology discipline, such as electrical, plumbing, carpentry, remodeling/repair, etc. may be substituted for the required experience as follows: 24 semester (36 quarter) units of vocational training or technical coursework may be substituted for up to one (1) year of the required experience.
LICENSE REQUIRED
- Possession of a valid California Driver License, Class C or higher, may be required for some assignments to travel to and from justice centers and other locations as needed.
- Class III Asbestos training required within one (1) year of hire. Must renew or recertify annually at the cost of the court.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to perform physically demanding work that requires bending, stooping, squatting, heavy lifting, working in close quarters, climbing ladders, reaching overhead to make repairs and perform certain tasks, using power and pneumatic tools and sufficient manual dexterity and vision to do light carpentry and painting.
