The Executive Director of CMO Affairs and Capacity Management serves two critical roles at Lahey Hospital and Medical Center:

First, the Executive Director will support the Affairs of the CMO Office. These duties include executing initiatives originating from the Office of the CMO. Prioritization of this work is determined in partnership with the CMO and other leaders when appropriate, and can include clinical, strategic, programmatic, operational, quality or innovation focused assignments. In addition to consistent multidisciplinary local collaborations within LHMC, at times this work will include efforts in concert with BILH system leaders, leaders of BILH member entities or other partners external to LHMC.

Second, the position provides executive leadership for LHMC TrAC with a provider and patient centric lens. The TrAC team functions to create the capacity to care for patients who require a level of care not available in their community, as well as supporting key organizational priorities including patient progression and patient safety. The Capacity Management portion of this role is a direct report to the Chief Medical Officer and is an important member of the TrAC team leadership. Partnering with the ACNO of TrAC and the Director of TrAC to help run the day-to-day operations particularly as the TrAC efforts involve providers is imperative. The Executive Director of Capacity Management will also collaborate with the other TrAC team leadership members to guide initiatives and improvements, maintain and share data, and represent the LHMC in internal and external forums.

Job Description:

Essential Responsibilities: 


1.    Collaborative Leadership:

  • Maintain and create multidisciplinary partnerships to plan, execute and evaluate initiatives originating from the office of the CMO aligned with organizational strategy.
  • Meet Regularly with ANCO of TrAC and Director of TrAC to: 
  • i.    Review TrAC activity, key performance metrics, inter-professional team function, and issues/concerns relevant to quality/safety of patient care; 
  • Develop/lead/support interventions to resolve any identified care gaps or issues/concerns related to quality/safety of clinical care, including those related to LHMC operational priorities

2.    Crisis Management:

  • Provide leadership in the event of patient or staff safety crises related to the TrAC.
  • Partner with the CMO and designees to manage urgencies which arise from time to time requiring attention of medical leadership.

3.    Operations Improvement

  • Optimize operations to serve objectives aligned with organizational priorities as set by senior leadership.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of TrAC data, in addition to the barriers and challenges to success including developing and overseeing data systems to objectively measure metrics important to organizational strategy  This includes regular data production and answers to ad hoc queries. 
  • Co-Lead efforts at addressing institutional capacity challenges day to day.  (Examples including leadership of “CODE HELP” calls, follow up with providers regarding capacity related priorities (telemetry, discharge appropriateness and level of care re-evaluations, for example)).
  • Contribute to the design of systems improvement that will help address LHMC’s capacity challenges longitudinally
  • Improve communications with Outside Hospitals (OSH) who experience transfer delays
  • Assist TrAC and Administrative Nursing Supervisors in the prioritization of OSH transfers and communication with accepting LHMC physicians.  This includes supporting plans for clinically appropriate alternatives to inpatient transfer (eg. “turnaround” cases, specific communications with alternative inpatient sites for ED admissions or transfer requests, close outpatient follow up, supporting plans for procedural timing and subsequent specificity of transfer timing, etc.). 
  • Meet with internal and external stakeholders to continually improve TrAC experience and partner to lead patient progression initiatives with the multidisciplinary team as appropriate; collaborate with referring sites to align resources.
  • Develop and collaboratively work towards goals that connect to operational priorities. 
  • Attend and participate in daily Hospital Operations huddles to share metrics, relevant issues, and understand operational challenges for other interfacing areas of the Hospital
  • Attend and participate in additional relevant Hospital operations meetings including with service line leaders regarding transfer operations
  • Partner with the CMO-on-Call to solve operational issues and as appropriates serve in the CMO-on-Call role on weekdays.
  • Serve as provider leadership to BILH Transfer Center Operations as needed.

4.    Quality/Safety Management: 

  • Work with the Chief Quality Officer, Patient Safety Officer, ACNO of Nursing Quality and others to continually improve care delivery across LHMC and its partners. 
  • Partner with the Director of TrAC to monitor and assess quality metrics and work on quality improvement projects related to the TrAC team.
  • Address quality concerns and complaints related to transfers that arise. 

Minimum Qualifications: 

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required (BS/BA or BSN)
  • MBA, MPH or related master’s degree preferred.

Licensure, Certification, Registration:

  • Credentialed NP/PA provider at Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in good standing, preferred.


Experience:

  • Experience working on hospital operations with multidisciplinary teams in leadership role preferred.
  • Five years of clinical experience post training preferred.


Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and resolve complex issues with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to manage concurrent projects with competing priorities and aggressive deadlines.
  • Possess strong analytic skills in order to manipulate, interpret and utilize data for process improvement.
  • Strong PC skills including proficiency in use of MS Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Project
  • Understands context of assignments and tasks and ability to be flexible and adaptable to changing roles & priorities.
