Job description

Habitat for Humanity International is a global organization that envisions a world where everyone has a decent place to live.  Seeking to put God's love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope.  The Hawaii Habitat for Humanity Association, Inc. (HHFHA) is seeking an Executive Director for the State of Hawaii's Affiliate Support Organization (ASO) to provide overall leadership for the ASO in accordance with the policies, objectives, and directions of the Board of Directors.  HHFHA operates statewide to support five diverse and geographically dispersed local affiliates through resource development, advocacy, disaster response, training, and technical assistance and its work involves local businesses, churches, and individuals to invest in the improvement of their community.

The Executive Director is the chief executive officer of the ASO, is a non-voting member of the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee, and has overall responsibility for the management of the affairs of HHFHA.  They are the public face and corporate spokesperson for the ASO and accountable for the effective and efficient financial, operational, and administrative management of HHFHA.  They accept the covenant of Habitat for Humanity and is a leading advocate for changes in policies and systems throughout the State of Hawaii aimed at eliminating the inadequate barriers for a safe and decent place for our community to call home.
 
Key Responsibilities: 
Excellent Communicator.  Will speak on behalf of HHFHA across multiple platforms including with State and County legislators and therefore must have the ability to be clear, concise and on message.  Must be able to tailor messages based on the audience and/or platform, actively listen, have deliberate conversations, stay ready with key facts, and be ready for open dialog as the main representative of HHFHA.

Ability to Hone Fundraising Skills.  Extraordinary relationship builder who is genuinely and endlessly curious about the individuals in their network and about exploring new fundraising opportunities.  Must be invested in the HHFHA mission and able to become distinguished storytellers to inspire commitment across external networks.

Long-Term Visionary.  A long-term vision gives direction and focus to every process, event, and meeting.  The long-term vision acts as a thesis statement for what needs to happen day-to-day and into the future; and provides a framework for executing the HHFHA mission.  The Executive Director must be able to produce a concise statement of long-term goals with clear, achievable, measurable milestones with a realistic timeline.

Requirements: 
Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, nonprofit administration, public relations, or related field or equivalent work experience. Five years paid experience working in a non-profit organization, community development, construction or other related field.
Valid driver's license, reliable transportation and willingness to travel are required.
Required to pass a background check.
Cannot be a registered sex offender or have a felony conviction.
Must be able to articulate the organization's mission, values and goals.
Must be organized, able to meet deadlines, and able to manage projects.
Must possess the ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people.
Must maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in the field, including training provided by Habitat for Humanity International.

Preferred:
Demonstrates high level of adaptability to effectively manage diverse, changing and even competing task expectations.
Strong organization, planning, project management and implementation skills.
Ability to work respectfully, courteously and with a positive attitude when dealing with staff, volunteers, board members, and community partners.
Strong knowledge of corporate and/or non-profit governance with significant experience interfacing with governing boards.
Proven track record of relationship building that leads to financial investment.
 Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner, gather and analyze information skillfully, and effectively lead by displaying sound and accurate judgment.
Exemplary leadership and management skills.
Experience influencing business culture through the development and implementation of strategic initiatives.
Strong financial acumen and financial management skills.
Demonstrated problem-solving, decision-making, and negotiating skills.
Experience with and understanding of real estate transactions, construction, public funding and/or knowledge of mortgage procedures preferred.
Has a proven record of fund development activities and fundraising.
Prior Habitat for Humanity or affordable housing experience is a plus.
