ENGLISH LANGUAGE TUTOR/ FACILITATOR- ITINERATE
 
REPORTS TO:         Title I Supervisor
JOB GOAL:              The English Learner (EL) Tutor/Facilitator provides individualized, small group, or in-class instruction to students using effective, researched based material and activities designed to meet a student's language needs. The EL instructional tutor/facilitator only works on the language needs of the student. Therefore, it is emphasized that all eligible students maintain their inclusion in core academic instruction with language scaffolding. The EL Tutor/Facilitator will assist school personnel, students, and family members with English in communicating more effectively, assimilating into the District, and locating needed resources.
 
 
COORDINATES WITH:    
Title I Supervisor, District Homeless Liaison, Early Childhood Facilitator, and school personnel.
 
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
            1. Hold a valid and current Louisiana Teaching Certificate.
          *2. Fluent Spanish-English spoken and written, coursework in bilingual education.
            3. Knowledge of the Louisiana Connectors for English Learners.
            4. Computer literate.
            5. Good communication skills and ability to relate to a variety of people in multiple situations- office,     
                community agencies, school personnel, students, and/or parents, etc...
            6. Knowledge of local resources- social and health service agencies, e.g.
            7. Flexibility in schedule and approach to work assignments.
 
 
PROFESSIONAL TUTOR/FACILITATOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
            1. Knowledge of language acquisition, and its application.
            2. Screen students using the English Language Proficiency Screener.
            3. Assist with English Language Proficiency Test.
            4. Ability to interpret and make decisions based on data.
            5. Uses student data to create SLT.
            6. Excellent writing and public speaking skills.
            7. Outstanding organizational and planning abilities.
            8. Excellent leadership and facilitation skills in working effectively with individuals and groups.
            9. Mediate between school personnel, parents and students.
          10. Attends and translates information at parent meetings.
          11. Translate materials as requested.
          12. Knowledgeable in the areas of curriculum, instructional methods, and theory.
          13. Desire to serve as a team player.
          14. Outstanding problem solving and conflict resolution skills. 
          15. Ability to work a flexible schedule including work as directed outside of the school calendar.
          16. Able to travel to multiple schools to service students and attend meetings.
          17. Ability to respond to parent calls and messages outside of the normal work day.
          18. Demonstrates an understanding and use of equitable and culturally responsive practices.
          19. Assumes other related responsibilities as assigned by the principal, Title I Supervisor, Director of
                Federal Programs and/or the Superintendent.
PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES:
1. The teacher tutor values, sequences and aligns curriculum enabling students to build their     
    understanding of important ideas from concept to concept.
    2. The teacher tutor designs and structures lessons so that learner outcomes are at an appropriate cognitive
         level.
    3. The teacher tutor differentiates outcomes and instruction for students of varied abilities.
          4. The teacher tutor helps students to develop skills to work purposefully and cooperatively in groups.
          5. The teacher tutor develops and presents questions that cause students to think and reflect; resulting in a     
              deeper understanding of the topic.
          6. The teacher tutor promotes learning through discussion.
          7. The teacher tutor uses a range of techniques to ensure that all students contribute to the discussion and
         enlists the assistance of students to ensure this outcome.
    8.  The teacher tutor teacher facilitates activities and assignments that promote learning and are aligned   
               with the goals of the lesson.
          9.  The teacher tutor selects instructional materials suited to engaging students in understanding and
               learning at a deeper level.
        10. The teacher tutor delivers lessons that are appropriately structured and paced.
        11. The teacher tutor monitors student learning using a variety of techniques.
        12. The teacher tutor provides valuable feedback in a timely, constructive and substantive manner.
        13. The teacher tutor promotes student self-assessment and student self-monitoring of their progress.
        14. The teacher tutor/facilitator assists with ELPS & ELPT.
        15. The teacher tutor/facilitator assists with translating for meetings between the school, parents and
              teachers at various assigned schools.
 
Professionalism Competency - The teacher tutor contributes to achieving the school's mission, engages in self-reflection and growth opportunities, and creates and sustains partnerships with families, colleagues and communities.
  • The teacher tutor engages in self-reflection and growth opportunities to support high levels of learning for all students.
  • The teacher tutor/facilitator collaborates and communicates effectively with families, colleagues, and the community to promote students' academic achievement and to accomplish the school's mission.
Any and all duties as assigned by the EL District Supervisor
Minimum Qualifications: United States citizen or authorized alien; those requirements as outlined in Louisiana Bulletin 746. (Louisiana Standards of State Certification of School Personnel) Physical and mental stamina and ability to perform job functions, tasks and duties.
Language Skills: Possess the ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical information in English and Spanish. Possess the ability to respond to common inquiries and demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing,
using proper grammar and vocabulary in English and Spanish. (Bilingual English/Spanish)
Proof of advanced literacy and conversational skills in both English and Spanish languages required. Experience teaching ELL, immersion students, and/or a second language English/Spanish-(Translator Certified)
Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Internet software, Instructional technology systems, spreadsheet software and word processing software. Provides and uses personal transportation as an itinerate teacher tutor facilitator. Provides and uses personal cellular device to communicate with parents.
Working Conditions:  9 month position, Itinerate Teacher
Reports to: District EL Supervisor/School Principal(s) and/or Assistant Principal(s)
