Purpose:
Facilitate the logistical processes in the Metrology Standards Laboratory, supporting the calibration of
precision Measuring & Test Equipment and Instrumentation. Logistical operations include report
generation and distribution to equipment owners (e.g., customer notification of equipment due for
calibration, out-of-tolerance events, overdue equipment, etc.), routing of Service Requests in Maxmio
to document calibration requirements, pickup & dropoff of equipment in North Chicago and Abbott
Park, issuing of purchase orders for goods and services using SAP, etc.
Describe the primary goals, objectives or functions or outputs of this position.
Responsibilities:
Create Cognos Reports from the Maxmio Asset Management System to analyze specific customized
information on equipment statuses, including data such as Manufacturer, Model Number, Serial
Number, Cost Center, Workorder Number, Calibration Due Date, Location, etc.
Notify equipment owners and customers of equipment statuses (e.g. assets due/overdue for
calibration, Out-Of-Tolerance / OOT events, unable to locate, etc.).
Perform daily pickup and dropoff responsibilities to multiple designated customer locations in North
Chicago and Abbott Park, requiring driving light-duty vehicles (e.g. Ford Transit van), lifting and
transporting equipment, delivery of delicate instruments, etc.
Generate and process Purchase Orders (PO's) for vendor services (e.g. calibration, repair, etc.) and
acquisition of various supplies and parts, capital equipment, etc., requiring coordination and
communication with vendors, manufacturers, suppliers, 3
rd party laboratories, etc.
Interface with multiple stakeholders (e.g. equipment owners, customers, scientists, department
managers, metrology engineers, calibration technicians, scientists, etc.) to process Service Requests
(SR's) in the IBM Maximo system to identify and document instrument specifications and calibration
requirements, (e.g. Range, Accuracy, Test Points, etc.), including generation of Asset Records,
Workorders, Datasheets, JobPlans, Preventative Maintenance modules, etc.
Perform Shipping and Receiving responsibilities in an office area to include delicate measuring
instruments and equipment, via Federal Express, to and from domestic and international locations.
Occasional "backup" responsibilities for Calibration Technicians, that may include calibrating
pipettes and other instrumentation in measurement disciplines such as: pressure, vacuum, electrical,
flow, air samplers, thermometers, temperature baths, dataloggers, transmitters, chart recorders,
hygrometers, multimeters, resistance decade boxes, oscilloscopes, conductivity meters, current
clamps, power supplies, tachometers, micrometers, calipers, go/no-go gauges and dimensional
artifacts, weights/mass, analytical balances, coordinate measuring machines, torque wrenches,
turbidity meters, viscometers, water activity, titrimeters, particle counters, osmometers, TOC
analyzers, refractometers, High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC's / UPLC's), UV-Vis
Spectrophotometers, gas chromatographs (GC's), mass spectrometers, polarimeters, optical filters,
etc.
Knowledge of any of the following is desirable: Precision Measurement Equipment Laboratories

cGMP, NCSL Recommended Practices, Measurement Uncertainty (ISO GUM), concepts such as Test
Uncertainty Ratio (TUR) and Test Accuracy Ratio (TAR), Repeatability and Reproducibility, Gauge Rand-R studies, Measurement System Analysis, statistics, quality control charts, Out-Of-Tolerance
(OOT) investigations, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Corrective And Preventive Action (CAPA).
Knowledge or experience with any of the following software packages is desirable: IBM Maxmio
(required), IBM Cognos Analytics, Mettler Calibry, Peak-Networks Pipetto, Fluke Met/Cal, Fluke
COMPASS, Mettler MC-Link, Agilent Win-UV, etc.

High School diploma or GED required. Minimum of 2 years experience as a logistical coordinator,
asset management specialist, metrology scheduler, calibration coordinator/technician, quality
inspector, or other applicable position. Associates Degree or higher in a suitable technical field is
