Job description

ENERGY INSTRUCTOR, D-Lab (part-time, 50%, to join a program that works with people around the world to develop and advance collaborative approaches and practical solutions to global poverty challenges. Will co-teach the MIT class EC.711/EC.791 (G)/2.651 Introduction to Energy in Global Development, a 12-unit class that provides a broad survey of energy technologies in developing countries and practical, hands on experiences through labs and projects. The class is taught annually during MIT’s spring semester (February through mid-April).  Students survey energy technologies including solar wind and hydropower cooking, indoor heating, irrigation, and agricultural productivity through an international development context to impart energy literacy and common-sense applications.  This course focuses on compact, robust, low-cost systems for meeting the needs of households and small business; and provides an overview of identifying user needs, assessing the suitability of specific technologies, and strategies for implementation in developing countries. Labs reinforce lecture material through hands-on activities, including system assembly and testing. Team projects involve activities, including connecting with pre-selected community partners, product design, and analysis to continue the development of ongoing projects.
