Job description

Performs intermediate skilled administrative support work processing ambulance information, generating various reports, issuing permits, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Central Collections Supervisor. The normal work schedule includes Monday through Friday 8am - 5pm. This position is hybrid, office/remote with most of the time being remote.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Keying and coding ambulance transports with the correct diagnosis codes and CPT codes required for payment daily by importing the run reports from ESO into our software system, Centralsquare Technologies.
Check Trizetto Provider Solutions as well as Payorlogic for insurance sources in order to bill.
Communicate with Cleveland County and surrounding Hospice's for hospice patients for correct payer source.
Communicate with various hospitals and nursing facilities to ensure proper flow of paperwork and open lines of communication is maintained.
Check Medicaid website and download and prepare Medicaid remit for posting.
File all insurances daily including Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance and correct any errors received to prevent denial of payment.
Must attend billing conferences to assure up to date knowledge for billing procedures and laws governing Medicare/Medicaid/Insurance laws.
Must ensure that required forms are attached to records prior to billing claims.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of; Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA); procedure and diagnostic codes (HCPCS and ICD-10 codes); medical terminology; Medical Billing. Has considerable knowledge of North Carolina and County laws and policies concerning billing and collecting. Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel. Is able to prepare records and reports concerning the collection of delinquent and current bills. Is able to compute figures rapidly and accurately. Is able to deal tactfully and courteously with the general public in explaining collection laws and policies. Is able to communicate effectively in English, orally and in writing. Requires the ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form; to deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to give or follow oral and written instructions. Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Requires the ability to speak to people with poise, voice control and confidence. Must be adaptable to performing under stress and when confronted with persons acting under stress. Ability to work independently and with a group. Ability to maintain effective working relationships. Proficient with a computer including the ability to type at least 35 words per minute and proficiency using 10 key.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:
High school diploma or GED and at least one year of experience working with medical terminology, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including computers, copiers, printers, facsimile machines, calculators, etc. Must be able to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and up to 5 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force consistently to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary work. Light Work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree. However, if the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated Light Work.

Certified ambulance coder certification
