Position Summary:

The Engagement Manager works under the general direction and guidance of the Director of Staff Engagement and performs administrative and supervisory functions. The Engagement Manager acts as a subject matter expert regarding Diversity, Equity, Inclusion (DE&I) within the organization. The Engagement Manager is responsible for facilitating Equity Work Groups (EWG) meetings to reach their individual group goals. Facilitates dialogue on DE&I and increases shared knowledge and its impact on HFB’s work. Provides excellent and high-quality JEDI-related workshops, 1:1 coaching, and group coaching/facilitation. Conducts research, analyzes DE&I training needs, curates content, and delivers training across a variety of workgroups within the organization. The Engagement Manager works collaboratively with management and front-line staff to create an informed and empowered workforce. Responsibilities also include writing, content collection and general internal communication assistance including internal bilingual (English and Spanish) monthly newsletter and All Staff Meeting/Event coordination. Maintains professional business relations with staff and outside contacts. Keeps management well informed of area activities.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  2. Manages and provides support to highly visible DE & I programs
  3. Evaluates, designs, and implements D&I projects and programs in addition to building on existing programs to expand the HFB’s current DE& I strategy
  4. Consults HFB leaders and partners in developing and integrating diversity goals and strategies into the business planning process and practices
  5. Assesses, designs, develops, implements, and maintains diversity education, training, and awareness programs
  6. Gathers and analyzes data and produces reports that provide progress against diversity metrics and action plans
  7. Serving as subject matter expert, advises on workforce D&I best practices, to recommend programs and policies for the organization to drive achievement of its business objectives
  8. Lead virtual and in-person group sessions, roundtables, 1 on 1 coaching as needed.
  9. Writing and assisting with internal communications – closely collaborating with Human Resources and Marketing and Communications Departments
  10. Collecting content for, creating, and distributing the Internal Monthly Newsletter (bilingual)
  11. Design content and/or curricula for e-Learning platform, Cornerstone LMS, as appropriate.
  12. Develop processes and systems to evaluate progress and measure the impact of DE&I efforts
  13. Research and benchmark world-class industry practices for approaches to advance DE&I within HFB, using data-driven practices that have proven results
  14. Equity Work Groups (EWGs)
    1. Serve as DE & I SME for EWG participants
    2. Facilitate meetings ensuring dialog is focused, productive, and mission-centric
    3. Ensures scheduling of EWG meetings
    4. Guides and supports EWGs to develop meeting agendas and activities.
    5. Support EWGs in the development, implementation, evaluation and, calibration of group goals
    6. Leverages Feeding America resources and essential partners (e.g., other foodbanks) to ensure best practices and alignment
    7. Create an engaging learning experience using case studies, examples, videos, pre-work assignments, and more activities related to DE &I
    8. Ensure proactive communication to HFB organization as it relates to planned training, events, progress and the overall status of EWG meetings

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Human Resources, Sociology, Organizational psychology, or closely related field required; MS/MBA preferred.

  • plus 2-5 years recent, progressive and continuous experience leading diversity/equity/inclusion programs, initiatives, and facilitating training.
  • Understanding of adult learning theory (desirable)
  • Minimum of 3-years of leadership coaching experience

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:

  • Certified Diversity Professional (CDP) or National Diversity Council Certified Diversity Professional (NDCCDP) (strongly preferred)
  • Coaching or Facilitation certifications (desired)
  • Professional in Human Resources (PHR) or SHRM- CP certification (strongly preferred)
  • Must have reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, and insurance

Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of using virtual meeting technologies (Zoom, WebEx, Microsoft Teams, etc.)
  • Strong navigating workshops technologies (PowerPoint, Mural, Zoom, Polls, Online Surveys, etc.).
  • Working knowledge of Human Resources, including compliance and risk mitigation
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, and managerial courage to effectively collaborate with senior-level leaders, managers, staff, and community partners.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively interact and communicate with all levels within the company in English required.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Skills in preparing business cases and presentations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently to complete projects, and effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and senior-level leadership.
  • Ability to transfer knowledge for the purpose of developing others.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an associate to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. The associate will need to have the average ability to hear horns, warnings, and alerts associated with a warehouse. The associate is occasionally required to travel to other sites for business.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those associate encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While the job is generally performed in an enclosed office environment, the associate is occasionally exposed to freezers, enclosed and/or tight spaces, wet and/or humid conditions, areas in which moving mechanical parts, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals are present, strong food-related smells, and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the office environment is typically quiet, but the associate will be occasionally exposed to loud noise levels (e.g., horns, fans).

TRAVEL REQUIRED:

Minimal travel is required for this position (up to 10% of the time and on a domestic basis). This role supports all hours of operations at the Houston Food Bank facilities as necessary and requires a flexible work schedule.
