The purpose of the Elementary Music Teacher is to help students grow in their
enjoyment, appreciation, and performance of music, as well as to provide assistance to the staff in the area of music instruction and performance. It is their main priority to utilize music as an evangelism tool that can further the spread of the gospel among students, school families, and the community.
The music department works with classroom teachers to provide opportunities for students to grow in their musical abilities and to participate in worship. This partnership is essential in enhancing campus worship and bringing school families into the church.
Requirements
- A Bachelor of Science in Education Degree or equivalent with a music major or minor; or, must have a background in or experience with church and school music.

Duties
As a practical definition, The Elementary School Music Teacher:
- Teaches Kindergarten through 6th grade music classes
- Teaches general skills in music comprehension
- Develops engaging lessons for all levels of musical ability
- Leads or assists with the DSA choir
- Assists in chapel worship as needed
- Helps select music
- Performs as needed
- Encourages student performers
Leads or assists with the music for school drama production, chapel, and special services
- Assists with school drama practices and performances (spring semester)
- Assists with music selection, practices and performances for chapel and singing in church including Christmas services (mid-December)
- Accompanies or directs songs as needed
