In a small, innovative, and fast growing R&D team, your tasks are centered around the development of new analytical (mass spectrometer) instrumentation. In the offered role you focus on the continuous improvement and maintenance of modular electronics used in these high-sensitivity analytical instruments.


  • Design or adapt/improve existing designs of modular electronics which run the mass spectrometer instrument. Modules may include low and medium voltage power supplies, HV RF and DC drivers, low noise signal detection circuits, mixed analog/digital controllers, etc.
  • Select components, simulate designs, and assess stability and noise
  • Layout your own designs, or guide other layout engineers
  • Test and debug boards on the bench and as part of instrumentation systems in the lab
  • Find and select vendors including local board and assembly houses and maintain relationships to allow fast turnaround prototype work
  • Provide documentation, design transfer to production, and oversee scale up into
  • Collaborate closely with our global R&D team of scientists and engineers, nest into our design and development plan, and hold peer design reviews

Education And/or Experience 

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, or related field of study
  • Tracked record of PCB design, hands-on troubleshooting, and successful release to manufacturing
  • Prior experience with Mentor, Altium or similar eCAD tools. Basic knowledge in mechanical CAD systems
  • Basic SAP or other ERP experience.
  • A plus would be prior experience with Power supply designs, high voltage circuits, detection of small signals, RF, or amateur HAM radio. Experience in high-sensitivity instrumentation development is a plus.

Other Skills And Abilities 

  • Ability to work independently, self-motivated in an interdisciplinary team. Individual must be capable of independent judgment in design selection, research approaches, methodologies, and tools.
  • Ability to communicate well with engineers and scientists of other disciplines, both within the project and with collaborators outside the project group.
  • Good sense for consumer–grade solutions and optimized product cost
  • Structured and accurate work approach, result oriented

Other Qualifications:

Experience with solid modeling, packaging, thermal management, high voltage management, gas controls, and pneumatic design desirable. In addition, familiarity with modern metal and plastics manufacturing techniques including materials selection, and manufacturing methods is desirable.
