Our mission at Precision Neuroscience is to develop and commercialize brain-computer interfaces (BCIs). We are pursuing minimally invasive approaches to BCI to address major unmet clinical needs. We are well-capitalized and have an IP portfolio that has been built over nearly 10 years.
BCIs represent a new frontier in medicine and computing. We seek to establish Precision Neuroscience as one of the leading companies in this space globally. Our core objective is to deliver life-changing technology to millions of patients worldwide, and in doing so to transform the ways we interact with machines, one another, and our world.
We are seeking an Electrical Engineer to support our hardware engineering team in developing electronics for our implantable brain-computer interface (BCI). This role is best suited to a "generalist" who enjoys working on a wide range of electrical engineering tasks and is keen to gain exposure to wireless and system integration for medical implantable devices.
This is an extraordinary opportunity to join our core team to help shape the future of our company. You will contribute to a well-defined application that has interesting constraints, while you work with and learn from a team that is at the top of their fields.
This position will work from our Mountain View, California office and lab. We are unable to consider candidates who are not currently in the US.
You will:
- Support our multidisciplinary hardware engineering team to develop optimized electronic systems with high reliability, working with applications that are size-constrained and that operate at low power.
- Contribute to a range of electronic system simulation and detailed design, firmware, HDL digital coding targeting FPGAs, PCB design and layout, and testing tasks.
- Contribute to design and development of our mixed-signal discrete electronics using numerical simulation and performance optimization.
- Interface with and manage industry-leading vendors for fabrication and assembly needs.
- Participate in detailed, collaborative discussions about the impact of your work on the overall BCI design. Such discussions are driven by the excellent, substantial feedback loop generated by our rigorous experiment schedule.
- Create and update end-user technical documentation, product specifications and vendor procedures.
Requirements
- BS/MS in Electrical Engineering (EE), Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), Computer Engineering (CE), Computer Science (CS), or related field.
- 1-3 years' industry experience in electrical engineering roles, preferably for medical devices.
- Expertise in hands-on testing tasks using automated instrumentation and signal generators, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers and vector network analyzers.
- Expertise in HDL coding (VHDL preferred).
- Expert coding in standard C.
- Expertise writing firmware for and debugging MCUs/SoCs, FPGAs and industry standard digital interfaces and high-speed signaling methods.
- Experience with bring-up and debugging new hardware systems.
- Familiarity with design and simulation tools:
- High-level system simulation and data analysis (Python preferred)
- Field solving software (HFSS preferred)
- Digital circuitry simulation (Modelsim preferred)
- Schematic and layout tools (Altium, preferred)
- A track record of delivering on accelerated timelines and budgets, with a demonstrated history of self-directed work within a team.
- Familiarity designing small form factor and low-power discrete mixed-signal circuits for power-path control and management (preferred).
- Familiarity with physical and mathematical principles guiding the application of electrical engineering, especially electronic design involving electromagnetics first principals and applications (preferred).
- Familiarity with industry safety standards including IEC6601 (preferred).
