POSITION OVERVIEW
Electrical Designer III will lead the development of electrical design models and drawings of new ship and marine vehicle designs, as wells as modifications to existing designs.
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Electrical Designer III is responsible for:
- Assign and check the work of junior Electrical Designers.
- Develop electrical power and control wiring diagrams for marine applications.
- Develop 3D electrical equipment, lighting, wiring, conduit, cable hanger and electrical penetration models and associated 2D Production drawings for existing and new products.
- Create wiring routing tables with passthrough information, pinout identification, wire type, connector part numbers, label descriptions in MS Access or other cable management software.
- Create details to assist manufacturing installation and assembly of electrical systems.
- Ensure the quality of electrical design models and drawings.
- Integration of electrical design with structure, mechanical, and outfitting.
- Develop and maintain electrical standards, including cable schedules, wireways, penetrations, and cable terminations.
- Write Request for Information for functional engineering missing information.
- Ability to select vendor hardware/parts that are compatible with systems and customer requirements.
- Organize and maintain drawing file configurations and storage.
- Release drawings following company procedures.
- Process engineering change notices and engineering related corrective actions.
- Revise models and drawings to refine products based on input from engineering and production personnel.
- Create product illustrated parts for ShipConstructor Database entry.
- Assist field engineers in the resolution of production information requests.
- Other duties assigned by the Production Design Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS & ATTRIBUTES
ESSENTIAL
- Associate of Applied Science or equivalent.
- Minimum 10 years electrical design experience.
- 5 years ShipConstructor software experience, or 3 years ShipConstructor experience and 2 years with equivalent software.
- 10 years of AutoCAD software.
- Demonstrated proficiency in developing 2D and 3D electrical functional and production models and drawings.
- Electrical knowledge of power generation, power distribution, navigation, communication, video, equipment installations, junction box installation, cable routing, cableways and penetrations, and light systems.
- Experience with cable management software and databases.
- Good technical writing and professional communication skills.
- Proficient in MS Office suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- Ability to work under limited supervision.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Understanding of scheduling and an ability to adhere to strict deadlines.
DESIRABLE
- Steel or aluminium shipbuilding, boat building, offshore, or other marine design or fabrication experience.
- Electrical fabrication or field engineering experience.
- Knowledge of network systems and C5i equipment.
- Experience with structural, HVAC, mechanical, or outfitting design.
- Knowledge of multiple CAD programs and converting STP, IGES files to Autocad files.
- Knowledge of IEEE, ABS, US Navy and USCG design requirements.
- Familiarity with modular construction methods.

WORKING CONDITIONS
- Working conditions are normal for a Manufacturing environment where exposure to dust, fumes and airborne particles, temperature extremes and elevated noise level.
- Employees must regularly lift and or move up to 25 pounds and frequently lift and or move more than 50 pounds.
- While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand, stoop, kneel, climb, crouch, talk and hear.
- Position requires use of computer, telephones, and other office equipment, reading, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening, and hearing ability and visual acuity.
- Position occasionally requires ability to work in a manufacturing environment and onboard boats and ships from the beginning of production through the sea trails. This includes mobility to work in and around incomplete hull structures.

RELATIONSHIPS
This role requires a good relationship with the individuals and teams across the Production and Project delivery organizations to ensure Birdon achieves the safe completion of the agreed work, in the time required.
