The Caterpillar Oil & Gas and Marine Division is looking for an EHS/Environmental Compliance Manager located in Laurel, Montana. The EHS/Environmental Compliance Manager is responsible for the implementation of Caterpillar Environmental Health & Safety policy in order to minimize injuries at CPGS O&M facilities, by adherence to legislation and through proactive workplace improvements. This role is also responsible for the management of O&M staff training.

Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Environmental Health Safety & NERC Coordinator will support the business objectives by focusing on the following areas:
  • Create, develop and/or implement as necessary comprehensive Health, Safety & Environmental (HS&E) management systems that interpret and apply the requirements of legislation and corporate standards for CPGS O&M facilities. In order to achieve this goal, incumbent must liaise with Caterpillar EHS, CPGS CMS and with regulatory bodies such as OSHA, HS&E, Local Authorities, Environment Agency, etc.
  • Keep abreast of HS&E legislative developments, amending operating procedures so requirements of the applicable Environmental Management Systems are achieved. Act as an interface with the accreditation body's representatives on certification issues. Identify and advise on the provision of training needs that may arise from changes in the HS&E legislation or standards - delivering or organizing the training where appropriate and maintaining safety related records.
  • Develop and maintain processes and procedures for auditing the effectiveness of the company HS&E policies and management systems.
  • Facilitate and coordinate Safety meetings. Guide and facilitate actions aimed at achieving the HS&E goals in line with Caterpillar best practices.
  • Work with Plant Manager in establishing safety standards and safe systems of work for both existing and proposed equipment. Provide direction and guidance on application, provision and use of machine guarding and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), ensuring that protection requirements are satisfactorily achieved at minimum cost. Provide advice and guidance in preparing adequate risk assessments. Coordinate the data retention of completed assessments and report completion status to HS&E committees.
  • Take a lead role in accident or dangerous occurrence investigations, providing direction and guidance in those actions necessary to ensure re-occurrence is prevented. Collate accident and near miss data, provide to Caterpillar Safety office, analyze metrics and take proactive action where appropriate to ensure wherever possible that corporate HS&E targets are met.
  • The position manages the completion of its own work assignments and coordinates work with others.
  • Take a lead role in NERC compliance for all operator requirements and ensure reports are submitted to NERC in a timely manner.
  • Limited travel required (Less than 5% of working time).


Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree and 3-5 years of job-related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of shop operations and maintenance procedures.
  • Good human relations skills.


Top Candidates will also have:
  • Bachelors in engineering plus familiarity with company processes, equipment and processes.
  • HS&E/NERC compliance experience.
  • Knowledge of NERC compliance statutes/regulations and the necessary reporting requirements.
