GENERAL SUMMARY:

The EHS Manager will establish and lead the Phenomenex EHS program and develop and implement EHS compliance and EHS risk management processes for the company, drive company EHS performance improvement, manage Phenomenex network of associates with full-time EHS responsibility at the facility level, influence company leadership and working-level associates, and integrate EHS into the Danaher Business System toolkit.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) on Industrial Safety programs and required standards including hazard communication, fall protection, confined space, hot work, lockout/tag-out (LOTO), electrical safety, contractor safety management, machine guarding, powered industrial trucks, emergency response planning, slip/trip/falls, and chemical safety management.
  • Develop and implement safety programs, policies, and procedures. Ensure compliance with legal requirements, while meeting business expectations, and ensuring continuous improvement.
  • Assist in the development/preparation of Job Hazard Analysis (JHA), 5S, 4E Hazard Assessments.
  • Perform exposure assessment for chemicals (gases, vapors, dusts), biological, physical (noise, heat/cold stress), and ergonomic stressors.
  • Provide industrial hygiene technical support to employees, including analysis and interpretation of exposure data and methodologies.
  • Lead and conduct internal safety audits/inspections, risk assessments, and root cause investigations, including near miss accidents. Work within a team to develop prevention and mitigation methods and monitor the effectiveness of the countermeasures.
  • Identify incident trends to detect existing or potential incidents and health hazards. Determine corrective actions or preventative measures and ensure measures are implemented.
  • Work with the Human Resources Department Workman's Compensation team to reduce costs associated with lost time injuries and assist in developing return to work program.
  • Conduct onboarding and routine safety training. Train existing employees in OSHA, environmental, and applicable industry standards. Establish training effectiveness guidelines and monitor and track all training completed. Manage Environmental, Health & Safety training records including OSHA 300, 300A, & 301 Forms.
  • Lead safety initiatives and activities to promote employee engagement, create a safety culture within the company and ensure compliance with all government regulations.
  • Prepare and assist the organization to attain ISO 14001 and OSHAS 18001 certification.
  • Identify and manage leading and lagging EHS metrics. Solid working knowledge and application of federal, state, and local regulation including OSHA, EPA, environmental regulations, and applicable Building / Fire Safety Codes is required.
  • Ability to multi-task and consistently meet regulatory deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead change in a complex/technical manufacturing environment.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree in environmental, industrial, chemistry, chemical engineering, or related engineering field from an accredited institution.
  • 5-7 years professional experience in a chemical, pharmaceutical, oil/gas manufacturing and lab environment implementing industrial safety and IH programs.
  • Certified Professional Health & Safety status (ASP, CSP, CIH, CHSP, CHMM, etc.) preferred.
  • Strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
  • Knowledge of the following areas: OSHA, EPA, DOT, NFPA, American Conference of Governmental & Industrial Hygiene (ACGIH) Standards, Fire and Building Codes.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach, lead, mentor and/or influence across the organization to help drive positive cultural change

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed primarily indoors in an office, laboratory, or warehouse setting; wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. The noise level in the work environment is typically low to moderate; higher level of noise may be prevalent in laboratories or warehouse settings. While performing the duties of this position, the employee may be required to travel or work necessary overtime.

SAFETY:

Assists in the creation of a culture of safety and environmental protection by performing work safely in accordance with company and departmental safety procedures. Employee may be exposed to hazards or hazardous materials requiring use of personal protective equipment to prevent exposure. Operates equipment safely and reports any unsafe work conditions or practice to supervisor. If there is an accident or near miss, they must report it to their supervisor immediately.
