We are currently hiring for an EH&S Manager.

The Position: The EH&S Manager position assumes a leadership role in the Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) team through knowledge of regulations and safety standards, developing and implementing continuous improvements and management systems used in the manufacturing processes, and ensuring that EHS goals are met. The EH&S Manager is responsible for the development and administration of policies to establish and promote the maintenance of a safe, accident-free, and healthy work environment.  This position will also evaluate the environmental impact of manufacturing processes, including air emissions assessments and process waste optimization.

  

The compensation range for the EH&S Manager is $115,000 - $135,000 annually.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities 

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. 

  • Provides day-to-day support to manufacturing regarding EHS topics, at times requiring attention outside of normal business hours.
  • Reviews new EPA, OSHA, State and City EHS regulations, determines applicability to the company, and implements necessary compliance systems.  Submits periodic government reports as required.
  • Performs measurements, calculations and/or modeling to determine compliance with regulatory programs as well as estimate waste and air emission volumes and compositions.
  • Conducts plant or area surveys to confirm safe limits of exposure to hazardous materials or conditions such as temperatures, noise, dusts, fumes, vapors, mists, gases, solvents, and radiation which are known or suspected of being real or potential detriments to health.  Implements or recommends control measures to prevent exposure and validates effectiveness of engineering controls. 
  • Communicates physical and chemical properties and risks of materials used at the company to employees, management and occupational health physicians to ensure appropriate level of protection is designed into processes and utilized by employees. 
  • Helps facilitate toxicological studies of manufactured materials and prepares Safety Data Sheets.
  • Conducts training and education for employees in various EHS topics.
  • Partners with Human Resources to manage all Worker’s Compensation cases.
  • Works with process and/or equipment design teams to design safe and environmentally compliant processes, minimizing EHS risks.  Reviews and approves new or modified equipment designs and operating procedures.
  • Managing the disposal of waste.
  • Managing Pest Control
  • Managed and maintains the company MSDS library
  • Assesses proper employee PPE for different job categories and manages the sourcing, procurement, program maintenance, and any required fitting of PPE including but not limited to safety shoes, safety glasses, PAPRS and respirators.
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining SOPs related to EH&S including but not limited to hazardous waste handling & clean-up, proper waste storage & removal and emergency action plans.
  • Conducts monitoring and recordkeeping activities as required by environmental permits or regulations and Health & Safety standards.  Reviews EHS data collected by instruments, software packages, etc.  Writes EHS SOPs as required.
  • Works with process development engineers to design environmentally friendly processes early in the development stages to avoid added investment requirements during scale-up.  This includes identifying safe and effective means to manage and control process waste, wastewater, and air emissions.
  • Contributes and leads investigations into deviations to procedures get to root cause.  Effectively implements corrective actions that are effective and sustained. 
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, local, and organizational laws, regulations, guidelines, and best practices including those related to safety and health. 
  • Main point of contact for OSHA inspections or audits.
  • Develops and implements procedures and strategies to ensure a safe work environment.   
  • Collaborates with other departmental managers to develop and execute budget. 
  • Maintain an active role on internal continuous improvement teams.
  • Works closely with Aktiv Pharma Group Program Managers, Purchasing Department and Engineers to ensure timelines are being kept.
  • Other duties as required and necessary to ensure the success of the organization.

Supervisory Duties 

  • The position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities for other Aktiv team members
  • Lead monthly Safety Committee meetings all Aktiv facility locations.
  • The position does have responsibility to manage budgets and activities of consultants and service providers supporting EH&S activities and compliance at Aktiv.

Experience and Education:  

  • Bachelors degree in Chemical Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline from a four year college or university or equivalent industry work experience required;
  • At least five years of EH&S supervisory experience in a medical device and or pharmaceutical manufacturing is strongly preferred.
  • The ideal candidate would have hands-on experience in a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment handling APIs and formulated drugs.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-to-year basis. 

Additional Requirements/Licenses/Certifications: 

  • Must have reliable transportation.  Currently have multiple locations.
  • Some interstate travel required.
