1. Conducts assessment/evaluation of student abilities and needs; attends and serves
as a member of the Individual Education Plan (IEP) Team to determine eligibility of
students for program; assists in the development of IEP instructional
goals/objectives; assists in identifying other related services for the student;
reassesses/evaluates student progress and submits reports in a timely manner to
coincide with IEP review meetings.

2. Establishes instructional/learning environment for students to reinforce appropriate
behavior and to provide academic instruction using a variety of instructional
methods.

3. Maintains cooperative working relationships with parents, member district staff,
SASED staff and community service agencies.

REPORTS TO:

School Principal, Assistant Principal, Special Education Administrator, Director of Special Education or designee.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Implement all district and SASED policies and procedures as they relate to the
classroom.
2. Establish and enforce rules for behavior and policies and procedures to maintain
order among students.
3. Recommends changes and improvements in the program and curriculum to the
Principal, Assistant Principal, Special Education Administrator, and Director of
Special Education or designee.
4. Plan educational activities and instruct using a variety of instructional techniques
(anticipatory set, instruction, modeling, guided practice, independent practice).
5. Demonstrate the ability to use technology globally.

6. Seek assistance from the Principal, Assistant Principal, Special Education
Administrator, Psychologist, Social Worker, Nurse, Speech Language Therapist, or
other specialists to improve the instructional program or solve specific problems.
7. Assess the physical, emotional and academic capabilities of each child and provide
instruction relative to that child's ability to learn.
8. Timely prepares, implements, and evaluates IEPs (including Transition Plans and
Behavior Management Plans) for each assigned student based on individually
assessed needs, in accordance with SASED procedures.
9. Plans, implements and evaluates social skills lesson plans, community based
instruction and behavior support plans (as needed for each student).
10.Plans and implements self-care programs, including direct assistance to students
(e.g., toileting, positioning, lifting, feeding, etc.) if applicable.
11.Provide and maintain a classroom environment which facilitates learning.
12.Implement the various programs designed to achieve the educational objectives of
the district and the Individual Educational Programs for each student in the
classroom.
13.Effectively instruct each student in learning new skills and acquiring knowledge.
14.Evaluate student levels and progress on an ongoing basis.
15.Refer to the RtI Team and/or administer diagnostic evaluations to students who are
identified as needing intervention.
16.Provide consultation to the general education teachers, other special education
teachers or paraprofessionals.
17.Monitor performance of students in the general education classrooms or other
special education classrooms as appropriate.
18.Promote affective development by addressing students' physical, social and
emotional needs.
19.Demonstrate the ability to maintain classroom discipline through effective individual
and group behavior management techniques.
20.Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the screening, referral, case study, annual
review, and conference processes and complete components as designated.
21.Maintain accurate records for each child (ie. IEPs, parent contacts, progress reports,
assessment data).
22.Requisition and maintain instructional materials and supplies and inventories as
required.
23.Attend faculty meetings and trainings as required.
24.Monitor and oversee services provided by paraprofessional and/ or other support
personnel assigned to the classroom and/or student in the classroom.
25.Evaluate paraprofessionals assigned to his/her classroom.
26.Participate in required and individual professional growth activities as required.
27. Perform such other duties and additional responsibilities as assigned.
