Dock / Yard Supervisor

Shift will be Sunday through Thursday 4:00 p.m. - 12:30 a.m.

Yard/Dock Supervisor:

• Administer all work dock operations and ensure compliance to safety policies. Always maintain neat and clean dock.
• Maintain optimal level of customer services and assist to resolve all customer issues. Supervise all customer and company staff in all Yard/Dock operations
• Organize and prioritize trailer placement in collaboration with the Outbound and Inbound Coordinators
• Hire and train staff to develop and achieve all work objectives and evaluate performance on a regular basis. Perform appraisals for staff, evaluate work and recommend changes as required. Complete all new hire paperwork.
• Directly supervise all activities of drivers and support personnel in loading and unloading trucks and trailers. Ensure yard and dock equipment are always ready for use, be able to monitor trailer temps
• Perform survey and analyze results to implement all safe work procedures. Ensure proper handling of all materials and store it appropriately
• Coordinate with supervisor and receive all materials and prepare necessary paperwork for same. Ensure proper handling of all materials and store it appropriately
• Monitor inventory of Yard and Dock supplies and place purchase orders as necessary
• Perform routine and non-routine maintenance on equipment and prepare report to submit to terminal manager
• Coordinate with other departments and investigate accidents and identify root cause of damage
• Monitor work of employees and initiate disciplinary actions as required
• Successfully place equipment at corresponding doors, chock tires, and set trailer jacks. Operate powered industrial equipment, including forklifts, with proper certifications within safety and company procedures
• Transport trailers between facilities as needed. Safely maneuver a tractor and trailer combination vehicle in Yard and in a compact Dock area
• Inspect merchandise for damage or unsafe alterations and report any findings to management. Pull equipment from door once given all clear, close the doors, and ensure the seal is properly attached
• Maintain processes and procedures in accordance with company regulations and safety standards. Complete daily inspection of jockey truck noting any maintenance issues to management
• Orderly maintaining of the Yard and Dock, inspection of trailers prior to loading. Support and participate with Safety Team meetings and activities
• Perform other projects and tasks as assigned by management

Minimum Eligibility Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• 1-2 years of relevant experience required
• Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
• Basic computer skills
• Must be flexible in work hours
• Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job
• Willingness to travel as necessary, work the required schedule, work at the specific location required
• Must possess excellent customer service and organizational skills
• Ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, and work in a fast-paced environment

• Ability to follow instructions and complete required training
• Valid Driver’s License. CDL license highly preferred

Physical Requirements:

• The associate must be able to see and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus
• Able to Perform work in a non-refrigerated work environment with temperatures that vary from 40 degrees Fahrenheit to 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Be able to perform work inside and outside of the facility
• Must be able to enter and exit the driver's compartment of the truck and/or behind cab using normally available footholds and handholds
• While performing the duties of this job, the associate will be required to move frequently, stand, walk, and sit. The associate is frequently required to use hands to touch, handle, and feel, and to reach with hands and arms. The associate must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 50lbs/23kg and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100lbs/45kg
• Works in a warehouse environment in all types of weather. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
