Position Summary:
The Director of Emergency Services is responsible for planning, directing, implementing, evaluating and improving all clinical and administrative services associated with quality of care, financial stewardship, recruitment and retention, and customer service.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Manages direct patient care processes:
- Assures pathways and clinical documentation are used appropriately such that departmental length of stay is within expected parameters.
- Monitors patient assignments and care team functions to ensure that care is coordinated and collaborative.
- Clinical experience and expertise that facilitates appropriate evaluation and support of staff activities.
- Develops, maintains, monitors and manages the quality of clinical care and services provided in department/unit.
- Directs and involves staff in quality and research activities.
- Reports quality outcomes and improvements as directed by hospital policy.
- Maintains a system to ensure continuous improvement in the quality of work and work processes.
- Achieves stability of work force and maintains vacancy rate and turnover rate at or below hospital average.
- Responsible for maintaining adequate staffing and processing payroll for assigned departments.
- Develops, implements, and monitors capital and operational budgets.
- Understands and manages staffing variance efficiently (i.e., manages to productivity targets, overtime and agency use).
- Evaluates business conditions to anticipate staffing and non-labor requirements.
- Communicates expectations and information with staff on a regular basis.
- Conducts annual staff performance evaluations in a timely and meaningful manner.
- Addresses patient/customer satisfaction concerns and implements proactive initiatives such that Press Ganey customer satisfaction scores demonstrate continued improvement or greater than 90th percentile results.

Qualifications:
Required:
Bachelors degree in Nursing (BSN) Current State of Michigan Registered Nurse license Three years of prior Emergency Department management experience.
Preferred:
Masters degree in relevant field
- Five years of prior work experience in a clinical healthcare setting
