Job Description
The Director of Purchasing & Estimating is responsible for leading the full range of purchasing, logistical, and estimating functions. The Director of Purchasing & Estimating will lead a team of purchasing managers and estimators as they serve as an integral member of the leadership team in providing strategic advice and counsel to executives and department leaders for the purchasing and estimating practices of Destination Homes. They will oversee the entire supply chain for high volume materials and products, while ensuring that they company purchases, logistically locates, and maintains proper inventories. The Director of Purchasing & Estimating is also responsible for qualifying and onboarding new trade contractors, the preparation of cost estimates for various projects and the preparation of contractor's bid packages, bid review, estimate analysis, and award discussions.
Director of Purchasing & Estimating Reports to: VP of Construction
Scope of Responsibilities/Duties:Work closely with the President and other members of the senior leadership team to develop and execute a strategic plan for purchasing and estimating to support the growth of the company
Make strategic vendor selections and maintain close working relationships with the entire trade and supply base
Develop sound, cost-effective strategies for purchasing materials, efficient holistic logistics, and inventory management
Oversee and direct sourcing and strategy personnel
Ensure production and delivery occurs on-schedule
Analyze, evaluate, and coordinate the performance of vendors with members of the senior leadership team and others
Efficiently manage the estimating process, including reviewing all final estimates and proposals to ensure accuracy and completeness
Prepare and report on periodic goals and budgets
Review contracts for construction from customers and negotiate necessary revisions
Manage and oversee scopes of work for all trade contractors to ensure accuracy
Plan, develop, coordinate, and supervise business development, marketing and estimating efforts for the company
Effectively build formal and informal networks inside and outside of the Company
Protect the legal, financial, and moral wellbeing of our parent company and its portfolio companies
Be a teacher to support the efforts of other employees to be successful
All other duties as assigned
Job Qualifications:- 10+ years' experience in the real estate industry, with specific experience in logistics, supply chain management, and/or estimating
- Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, economics, or relevant field, or equivalent experience.
- Strong negotiation, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills
- In-depth knowledge of preparing and reviewing subcontracts, purchase orders, agreements, and negotiation terms
- Strong management and leadership skills

Physical Requirements:
- This position requires frequent walking, standing, and climbing stairs in/around construction site, apartment homes, models, and properties
- This position requires working outdoors in all weather conditions (to include but limited to, rain, snow, heat, hail, wind, and sleet), around hazardous chemicals, dust, dirt, and other particulates
- Must have the ability to read and comprehend large quantities of information, operate computer equipment, speak, hear, bend, stoop, reach, lift, move, and carry up to 60 lbs. independently
- Regularly required to sit, stand, bend, reach, and move about office setting
