As the company continues to expand, we are seeking a talented and experienced Director of People Operations with a strong desire to make a difference.
Position Overview:
The Director of People Operations will lead our HR function and partner with our executive team to build and maintain a high performing, engaged, and inclusive workforce. The Director of People Operations will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of HR, including talent acquisition, employee relations, performance management, benefits administration, and HR strategy. This leadership role will play a crucial part in shaping our company culture and supporting our employees in achieving their full potential.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic HR Leadership:
· Develop and execute the company's HR strategy to align with overall business goals.
· Collaborate with senior leadership to drive organizational growth and performance through effective people management.
· Work closely with the Executive team to strategically manage salaries, bonuses, and other incentive-based compensation programs.
· Manage employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, and wellness initiatives while ensuring pace with industry trends and best practices.
· Develop and utilize HR data and metrics to drive informed decision-making.
· Prepare and present HR reports to senior management, identifying trends and areas for improvement.
· Oversee workforce planning and succession planning initiatives.
· Manage the company’s HRIS through relationship with software provider, internal training, and continuous improvement.
· Provide leadership and mentoring to the company’s HR team.
· Actively develop strategies that balance the needs of both the company and the union members.
Talent Acquisition, Employee Engagement, and Culture:
· Lead the talent acquisition process, including recruitment, selection, and onboarding of top talent.
· Develop strategies to attract, retain, and develop a diverse and skilled workforce.
· Implement and manage performance appraisal systems and processes.
· Provide guidance and support for managers and employees in setting and achieving performance goals.
· Develop and execute strategies to improve overall employee performance.
· Develop and oversee training and development programs to enhance employee skills and career growth.
· Foster a culture of continuous learning and development.
· Champion initiatives to enhance employee engagement, satisfaction, and well-being.
Internal and External Compliance:
· Develop, update, and enforce HR policies and procedures in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
· Stay informed about changes in labor laws and ensure company compliance.
· Address and resolve employee issues, conflicts, and grievances in a fair and consistent manner.
· Ensure compliance with employment laws and regulations.
· Promote and reinforce the company's values, culture, and diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.
· Manage the HR budget effectively, optimizing resources to achieve departmental goals.
· Actively engage with relevant labor unions and other external labor providers to understand their requirements and ensure full compliance.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in human resources, BA, or a related field or equivalent experience.
· SPHR or SHRM-SCP certification is highly desirable.
· 8+ years of progressive HR experience in construction or related industry with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
· Extensive knowledge of labor laws and regulations, especially in California.
· Experience in both union and non-union environments.
· Strong interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills.
· Exceptional problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to HR challenges.
· Proficiency in various HR software and tools for data analysis and reporting. UKG implementation/management experience a plus.
· Excellent organizational and project management skills.
Working Conditions:
This position generally operates in a professional office environment with prolonged periods of working on a computer, phone, and with other office equipment. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
