Job Summary:
The newly created Director of Logistics role will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies to optimize our transportation network within our four U.S. manufacturing plants as well as our U.S. supply base. This role requires strong leadership, excellent communication, deep analytical skills, and a thorough understanding of Logistics and transportation strategies. The successful candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams at each manufacturing site as well as leadership to ensure the efficient and timely movement of goods and materials, while maintaining cost-effectiveness and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute the overall logistics strategy, aligning it with the company's goals and objectives.
- Oversee the planning, coordination, and execution of all inbound and outbound logistics activities including transportation, warehousing, outside service partners, and 3PL and carrier management.
- Optimize the transportation network to ensure timely receipt of materials as well as delivery of goods to minimize cost, minimize damage, and improve operational efficiency.
- Create, monitor, and improve key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions within the transportation network.
- Manage relationships with third-party logistics providers, carriers, and suppliers to ensure service level agreements are met and costs are in line with market conditions.
- Lead, develop, and mentor a team of Logistics and transportation professionals at each site, providing guidance and support to achieve site goals in conjunction with organizational goals.
- Collaborate with other departments such as procurement, sales, customer service, and plant operations to ensure seamless integration of Logistics into the organization while providing best service.
- Stay up to date with industry trends, regulations, and best practices, and implement changes as necessary to maintain compliance and drive continuous improvement.
- Prepare and present reports to senior management, highlighting key performance metrics, challenges, and recommendations for improvement to ensure a resilient logistics operation.
- Position ideally based in DeKalb, IL. with occasional travel to Texas, Kansas, and Tennessee locations.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain management, business administration, or a related field. Master's degree is a plus but not required.
- Professional certifications in logistics and supply chain management (e.g., APICS, CLTD) are a plus.
- Recent experience (at least 7-10 years) in logistics and transportation management with a focus on supply chain transportation optimization.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Strong knowledge of transportation modes, including road, rail, air, and sea, as well as familiarity with international shipping regulations.
- Proficient in using ERP software such as D365 a huge plus in addition to 3PL portal navigation.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a diverse workforce across 4 locations in the U.S.
- Exceptional problem-solving and analytical abilities, with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Knowledge of lean principles and continuous improvement methodologies is highly desirable.
- Must be able to travel to other other locations outside Illinois 25%
