Please note: this position will require being onsite three (3) days a week (one day a week at headquarters [Rockville, MD], one day a week at Phyto [Washington, DC] and one day a week in MCP OPCO [Hagerstown, MD]) and two (2) days remote work.

Director of Human Resources

The Director of Human Resources is responsible for directing the planning, development, implementation, administration, and budgeting of all of the Human Resources functions, including but not limited to the following: employment, recruitment, employee relations, OSHA, EEO, Visa processing (H1B), compensation/benefits, and organizational development. The HR Director is also responsible for advising company management in Human Resources policy and program matters, including policy development, review, and improvement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Directly manage HR Team
  • Plan, lead, develop, coordinate, and implement policies, processes, training, initiatives, and surveys to support the organization's human resource compliance and strategy needs.
  • Proficient in addressing all aspects of employee relations issues to minimize adverse actions
  • Administer and oversee the administration of human resource programs including, but not limited to, compensation, payroll, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
  • Consult with facility management by providing HR policy guidance when appropriate. Advise leaders on the implications of short and long-term decisions.
  • Monitor and ensures the organizations compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews and modifies policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership as well as department leaders to understand the organizations goals and strategy related to staffing, recruiting, and retention and help develop strategies that maximize retention and minimize turnover.
  • Implement and update compensation programs annually; conducts annual salary surveys and develops merit pool (salary budget), analyzes compensation, and monitors performance evaluation program, revising as necessary
  • Develop, recommend, and implements personnel policies and procedures, prepares, and maintains Employee Handbook
  • Understand and develop a deep sensing with the employees to keep up positive culture
  • Continuously evaluate benefits and incentives and ensure we are continuing to offer benefits that place us among the top quartile in the industry
  • Collaborate with Director of Marketing on company communication and recruitment strategies
  • Partner with Finance & Accounting for various needs
  • Develops and implements departmental budget.
  • Plan and execute company events including company picnic
  • Develop training and employee development programs based on the needs of the company and its managers.
  • Provide monthly reporting to senior management on various important metrics including headcount, turnover, disciplinary actions, etc.
  • Addresses low performance quickly, compassionately, and in alignment with company policies.
  • Retains and develops top performers by understanding individuals motivations and providing actionable feedback.
  • Performs other related duties to benefit the mission of the organization
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required; Master's degree preferred.
  • SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP highly preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years related HR experience, at least 5 of these years in a management role
  • Broad generalist background including coaching and counseling, performance management, employee involvement, teambuilding, as well as compensation and benefits
  • Thorough knowledge of HR principles and federal/local regulations

Addition skills which will help you excel in your role:

  • Experience in implementing and administering performance programs, preferably in a company that put strong emphasis on performance metrics.
  • Exceptional project and personnel management skills.
  • Excellent ability to multi-task and prioritize in a busy, fast-growth environment.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and Power Point is essential.
  • Exhibit extraordinary discretion, flexibility, and willingness to work closely with our senior management team.

  • Excellent time management skills.
