Job Summary

The Director of Fund Development is responsible for managing the council's Fund Development, coordinating fundraising campaigns, and identifying potential sources of funds (including grants, individuals, foundations, corporations, annual giving, capital campaign, planned giving, and United Way and other agency supports).

The Director of Fund Developmentprovides professional expertise and support to the Fund Development Committee of the council's Board of Directors in developing strategic priorities and plans to meet the council's financial goals in keeping with established ethical standards, policies, and guidelines.

The Director of Fund Development, in collaboration with volunteers, is responsible for the overall planning and implementation of the Dessert before Dinner (DBD) Gala, a major fundraising event for the Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada with an overall net goal of $400,000+, and other fund-raising events and campaigns held throughout the year. Revenue from events is generated through high level corporate sponsorship, individual gifts, and a live/silent auction. This position reports to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following; other duties may need to be assigned according to the particular needs of the council and areas of supervision.
  • Ensures that the goals for all fundraising activities are met.
  • Provides professional expertise and direction in all aspects of fundraising to the staff within the department and staff support to the Fund Development Committee of the council's Board of Directors.
  • Participates in establishing fund development policies, procedures, plans, goals, and budgets.
  • Develops and manages the budget for fund development.
  • Aggressively seeks new funding sources and maintains relationships with current and past donors.
  • Develops effective working relationships with donors, volunteers, and foundation representatives to nurture connections to the organization and create lifetime givers.
  • Ensures that all annual donors receive appropriate recognition and communications.
  • Research prospective partners and identify prospective partners within certain assigned categories (i.e., financial literacy, STEM, outdoors, leadership, entrepreneurship, technology, etc.).
  • Establishes a presence in the community to increase the council's visibility as a funding source for potential and current or past donors.
  • Monitors development outcomes to increase fund development growth. Increased annual gifts, major gifts, and planned gifts are expected as a result of building lifelong relationships with donors.
  • Plans, manages, and executes all online and in-person fundraising events and donor engagement events.
  • Research, identify, and apply for grants that support Girl Scouts mission, programs, and initiatives.
  • Conduct the full range of activities required to prepare, submit, and manage grant proposals to foundation, private, government, and corporate sources.
  • Manages online donor database and auction/event-planning platforms. Ensures that the donor database of the council is up to date.
  • Works closely with the CEO to develop marketing strategies to promote the Girl Scout image for donor cultivation.
  • Directs and supports Marketing and Communications team in the development of marketing materials for fund development initiatives.
  • Collaborates with council and GSUSA staff to identify untapped markets of interest and to generate ideas, programs, and concepts to engage potential donors.
  • Participates in reporting, budgeting, goal setting, strategic planning, and outcomes evaluation to support and develop short-term departmental strategies, budgets, and risk management systems.
  • Attend and participate in team meetings and other all-staff meetings and events.
  • Other duties as directed and required.


Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Non-Profit Management, Business Administration, Marketing, or Communications; or any combination of education & experience that would provide an equivalent background.
  • 3-5 years of successful non-profit fund-raising experience, or proven success in marketing, sales, event planning
  • A proven track record in meeting fundraising/sales goals
  • Demonstrated high-level proficiency with Microsoft Office, Smartsheet. Prior Experience with CRM Software (Salesforce), donor management software (Donor Perfect), OneCause or other Fundraising Database preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership, collaborative, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong public speaking, writing, and presentation skills
  • Ability to conduct statistical and analytical research.
  • Foundation and government grant writing expertise a plus
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, friendly and professional customer interaction etiquette (face-to-face, over the phone, and through email)
  • Demonstrates ability in document preparation, proof reading and editing - accuracy and sharp attention to detail is a key aspect of this position
  • Ability to multitask, work independently or as a team player behind-the-scenes to make sure the Development department, organization, and gala committee members are set up for success
  • Strong sense of urgency, works well with short turnaround deadlines, able to jump in and adapt to any situation, possesses a positive and proactive attitude and initiative
  • Confidentiality is critical due to handling sensitive information related to finances of donors.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize work while managing multiple deadlines
  • Proven capability to work in a collaborative, service-focused environment
  • Demonstrably strong analytical skills, as well as problem-solving and conflict management capabilities
  • A demonstrably clear understanding of fund development and special event practices in carrying out duties with a high degree of confidentiality
  • Ability to relate to top community leaders and diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Ability to create interpretive materials to enable potential donors to understand Girl Scouts and how they contribute to the achievement of its mission.
  • Work Monday to Friday during office hours and occasional nights, weekends, and/or holidays as required - often times at the last minute or with short notice
  • Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift, move, and/or carry up to 25 pounds; and stand or walk for extended periods of time.
  • Must have personal transportation and ability to drive, possess a valid driver's license, maintain personal auto insurance and meet the council insurance company's requirements for coverage.
  • Ability to travel to and/or attend offsite meetings up to 50% percent of the time.
  • Girl Scouts membership required upon hire.
