Job description

General Summary

The Director of Engineering Services Mission Support Team plays a critical role in ensuring safe, quality, timely, on-budget delivery of ENGS projects. When not traveling, the team’s primary function is to provide training. The team provides immediate assistance, both remote and onsite, to provide stopgap and recovery measures to address either internal J&J issues or customer satisfaction issues. The team stands as experts on all aspects of project delivery, from initial concept of project, through completion of all warranty periods. The team provides an open door to all field staff, providing real-time guidance and on-demand training for project delivery.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Represent J&J, resolving project level conflict that has escalated beyond the project delivery team.
  • Develop and drive training initiatives based on actual staffing knowledge levels, actual SBU performance, and SBU objectives.
  • Develop and manage budget for the ENGS Mission Support Team.
  • Maintain and update SBU level policies, procedures, and work instructions, as assigned.
  • Actively participate in and contribute to company level vision and objectives.
  • Develop strategies to improve SBU performance and quality of life for SBU staff.
  • Review all adverse correspondence from customers and actively participate in developing response to address concerns.
  • As the director, actual standing in for site supervisory roles and project manager roles should be minimized; however, the director shall remain fully qualified and competent to temporarily fill these roles in the event that all other members of the ENGS Mission Support Team are otherwise unavailable.
  • Supervise and lead the ENGS Mission Support Team. Ideally, this is conducted via supervision of ENGS Mission Support Manager(s), who then directly supervise and lead the rest of the team, but may require direct supervision of all members of the team.

Knowledge, Experience and Skill Requirements

  • Minimum 10-years experience in supervisory role, performing engineering and/or construction efforts, for the U.S. Government, from the contractor perspective.
  • Demonstrated understanding of performing Firm-Fixed-Price construction type work IAW CFR Title 48.
  • Ability to be Government approved for role as Project Manager, Superintendent, Quality Control Manager, and Site Safety and Health Officer as described in typical MATOC, MACC, SATOC contracts for Design-Build services. This includes holding or obtaining all necessary credentials then maintaining the credentials.
  • Proficient working from mobile technology.

Preferred applicants hold the following experience and credentials:

  • Renovations of occupied, operational hospitals, medical clinics, research laboratories.
  • Greenfield/vertical construction.
  • Work as a prime contractor for USACE, NAVFAC, Department of State.
  • Active TS/SCI Security Clearance.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or construction related field.
  • Active license in a trade.

Physical, Environmental and Sensory Requirements

  • All members of the ENGS Mission Support Team are subject to extended periods of travel and travel on short notice.
  • Team members should keep a go bag ready for urgent, unplanned travel, with a 5-day duration.
  • As the QRF, Team members may be required to be physically onsite virtually anywhere in the United States within twenty-four hours of notification.
  • Short notice travel to international destination should be anticipated. A current, valid passport is required.
  • Potential travel destinations include the entire gamut from densely populated metropolitan areas to remote, desolate, less developed areas. This includes destinations on every continent and access to remote islands.
  • It is possible that team members would go an entire month without travel, but team members should anticipate a typical travel temp between 25% and 75%.
