Position Summary

The Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations (CFR) will develop and implement a comprehensive institutional fundraising program for Sac State to engage corporations and foundations more fully and to increase philanthropic support for the university. S/he will manage a portfolio of prospects, working in close partnership with university leaders, faculty, and staff. S/he will lead Sac State's CFR fundraising program by building and strengthening relationships and aligning corporate and foundation interests with university priorities. Reporting to the Associate Vice President for University Development, the CFR Director will work collaboratively with Directors of Development, university leadership, and faculty to leverage and maximize corporate and foundation giving.

FLSA: Exempt (not eligible for overtime compensation under FLSA). This position is benefits-eligible. 

CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,583 per month - $14,713 per month 

Hiring Range: $7,083 per month - $10,500 per month commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training

Time Base: Full-Time

Pay Plan: 12 months 

Work Hours: Monday to Friday, 8a.m. to 5p.m; other hours as required.

Department Information

Required Qualifications 

1. Minimum of three years of progressively responsible and successful experience in institutional fundraising within an academic or related nonprofit fundraising environment

2. Demonstrated experience successfully negotiating corporate and foundation partnerships, preferably in an academic setting, and working closely with organizational leaders and staff to build mutually beneficial relationships with institutional funders

3. Experience leading collaborations with various stakeholders, such as university leadership, faculty, and other constituencies on outreach, cultivation, and solicitation strategies for CFR prospects

4. Demonstrated experience conceptualizing and formulating successful proposals that excite potential donors

5. Demonstrated successful experience in building or strengthening a fundraising program

6. Demonstrated analytical, research, written and oral communication skills

7. Demonstrated fundraising knowledge and success in securing gifts of $25,000+

8. Ability to work independently and also as a member of a team

9. Strong knowledge and understanding of foundation and corporate philanthropic sectors

10. Collaborative and open to input and new ideas; comfortable working in a team environment

11. Aptitude to understand complex research and related applications with proven ability to translate that information into dynamic corporate and foundation proposals

12. Ability to work with deans and faculty on complex proposals

13. Deep appreciation and understanding of the academic enterprise and the ability to articulate academic values internally and externally

14. An ability to interact with individuals from diverse backgrounds

15. Strong customer service and interpersonal communication skills to work effectively with faculty, university leaders, staff, alumni, community groups, donors, and elected officials

16. An ability to quickly learn university infrastructure, policies, and procedures

17. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including proposal development skills

18. Thorough understanding of gift management and stewardship policies

19. High ethical standards and confidentiality in dealing with all constituencies

20. Demonstrated organizational and time management skills and ability to effectively plan, coordinate, prioritize, and execute multiple projects and meet established deadlines

21. Bachelor's degree

23. Experience working in higher education, or a complex institution

24. Strong corporate and/or foundation relationships with successful fundraising results, especially with large educational funders

25. Demonstrated corporate and/or foundation fundraising success of $100,000+ philanthropic gifts

Required Licenses/Certifications 

Valid driver's license and maintenance of good driving record, for occasional driving per the Essential Functions of the position
