The Director of Construction must maintain a General Building Contractor License in good standing with State of California Contractors State License Board and be willing to be appointed as the RME (Responsible Managing Employee) using his/her contractor's license. The Director of Construction oversees all aspects of the Habitat for Humanity of Sonoma County (HFHSC) construction process in a way that utilizes staff, AmeriCorps members, volunteer labor/Crew Leaders, General Contractors, and Subs to produce quality homes in a safe, affordable manner. The Director of Construction provides leadership and, in partnership with Habitat Board of Directors and staff, is accountable for its strategic operational direction as it relates to construction.
This position will include: developing construction plans (GC, subs, staff & volunteers), managing construction staff, finding and hiring contractors/subs, overseeing residential construction sites for new homes and aging in place, ensuring materials are available as needed, developing project schedules and budgets, training volunteers, assisting with plan and site development, scheduling and overseeing inspections and developing construction quality assurance methods to improve long term product and efficiencies. Habitat Sonoma County typically has one new build project active at a time, that may be one house or a muti home development project.
Construction Planning:
Develop an overall construction plan for each calendar year, in accordance with Habitat International standards and guidelines, plan and oversee all activities related to project schedules, budgets, reviewing plans, staffing/volunteer needs, material specs and determining the construction resource plan, and submitting plans and pulling all required permits.
Construction Management:
Ensure all houses meet all state and local code requirements and pass inspections, coordinate site development tasks, organize and maintain all digital and paper documentation for each project, attend necessary staff/Board meetings and provide updates, coordinate scheduling of build volunteer labor and provide overall supervision and leadership to all build department personnel, direct all construction activity, including ordering, invoice coding, hiring sub-contractors and job site scheduling.
Required Skills and Experience:
Must have a B - General Building Contractor License in good standing with State of California Contractors State License Board and be willing to be appointed as the RME (Responsible Managing Employee) using his/her contractor's license.
Ten years minimum of related residential home construction experience indicating a progression of responsibilities and supervision.
Must show proven ability to effectively control construction costs.
An absolute commitment to job safety.
Intermediate skill level in Microsoft Office Suite, including Project, Dropbox, Office 365, and construction systems programs.
Must have commitment to the Habitat mission and uphold its values.
Valid California Driver's License and insurability under affiliate automobile insurance policy.
Must pass Criminal Background Check and Sexual Offender Check upon acceptance of position.
Time Requirements: This is a 32-40 hour per week position.
