DIRECTOR OF FINANCE BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE

 

Job Summary / Purpose
The Director, Finance Business Intelligence is responsible for designing, developing and deploying data analytics and information solutions for a wide variety of business functions across the CommonSpirit enterprise including finance, supply chain and operations. This position works closely with senior and executive management in each of these areas to understand their business information needs and then translate those needs into electronic scorecards, dashboards and other financial reporting solutions. The Director supervises the teams of architects, developers, customer engagement and support personnel who design, implement, deploy, and support those solutions across the different business functions.  POSITION SCOPE CommonSpirit owns and operates 142 hospitals in 21 states, and the Director, Business Intelligence acts as an internal consultant to these facilities in all matters relating to business intelligence and data analytics. This position is responsible for the overall integrity of the consolidated operational, financial, demographic and other data that is presented across a variety of Business Intelligence platforms throughout the organization. In those efforts the position provides direct and indirect support to executive and senior management at both the corporate, local service area, and facility level.  


Essential Key Job Responsibilities
• The Director, Business Intelligence directly manages and supervises the BI Developers, Architects, Customer Engagement and Support staff on the corporate Finance Business intelligence team.

• The position works closely and directly with executive, senior and mid-level management at all levels of the organization to deliver BI solutions particularly in the area of financial reporting of the Controller’s Office. 

• This person also serves as a primary liaison with CommonSpirit IT and coordinates all BI application issues between them and the end-user community. 

• The Director also performs routine tasks such as employee evaluations, time & attendance matters, and general employee concerns for the corporate Business Intelligence department.

 


Data Integration

• The Director is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and consistency of the operational and financial business intelligence data and that the data is accurate and available through the dashboards, scorecards, and analytics interfaces established as the standard, and in use by the end user community.

• This position has overall responsibility for the integration and transformation of data from a variety of clinical and financial source systems such as Infor/Lawson systems into the centralized BI data warehouse for all CommonSpirit hospitals and a variety of related entities.

• This position is also responsible for the technical infrastructure and direction of the BI/Analytics environment, including tools, platforms, and standards. 

Reporting and Analytics

• The Director is responsible for working with appropriate staff in the business areas and on the BI team to design and deploy enterprise wide analytical capacity for to meet the business intelligence requirements of users across a broad spectrum of functional areas including Managed Care, Operation Assistance Group, Revenue Cycle, Mission Services, Business Development, Finance, IT, Materials Management, Human Resources, Accounts Payable, Payroll, Corporate Strategy, Care Management, and other functional areas as needed.

• This position has primary responsibility for the maintenance and security surrounding the business intelligence platform, including database administration and user access and privileges. 

• This position also serves as corporate business intelligence analytical resource for management at all levels of the organization on an as needed basis.

Community Development

• Develop curriculum and conduct end-user training sessions as needed on the various application modules of the business intelligence, data warehousing and analytics systems.

• Continuously educate members of the senior management team including hospital presidents, chief financial officers, senior level physicians and others on the analytical capabilities associated with the various business intelligence, data warehousing and analytics tools.

• Develop a business intelligence, data warehousing and analytics user community focused on the collaboration and communication of best practices, uses for, and capabilities of the business intelligence, data warehousing and analytics systems, thus driving user adoption of the tools and methodologies implemented by the Business Intelligence team.


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education and Experience 
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, information systems or business field.  MBA, MHA, CPA or other advanced degree highly preferred.  Minimum of ten (10) years of combined experience in a broad scope of account management, technical architecture, database management, software development, and personnel management. Knowledge and understanding of data warehousing concepts, technical requirements, development solutions and applications.  Demonstrate project management skills involving enterprise wide business intelligence system deployments.  Minimum 10 years of technical experience designing and developing business intelligence solutions in business environments, healthcare preferred.  Deep technical understanding and experience of various Business Intelligence technology platform, preferably the Microsoft SQL Server and SharePoint technologies..
