K&A Engineering is a privately held, providing comprehensive consulting, engineering and design, program/project management, construction management, and support services to power utility and industrial clients. Due to Company growth, we are we are actively seeking an experienced Director, Distribution Engineering to join our team in Chicago, IL.
Director, Distribution Engineering services include but are not limited to the following:
- Provide leadership and strategic direction to entire Line of Business operations, demonstrating vision, experience, and reliability
- Expert level knowledge and understanding of electrical power distribution systems in overhead and underground utility, DER interconnections and power systems
- Strong knowledge in PSEE, ASPEN, CYME, SAP, DER, planning studies, SEM, and Smart Map.
- Provide technical leadership in complex projects or processes that have a wide impact on the business
- Own the QA/QC processes and execute procedures to ensure safety is number one priority.
- Responsible for resource management, quality management and financial management in support of your team
- Supervise the planning processes to ensure system performance and capacities to operate are maintained within the established criteria
- Provide engineering support to team to ensure execution of all assigned work
- Establish and manage the goals and objectives for completing projects and utility program work while achieving proper utilization of personnel
- Manage the design and work process between the customer, contractors, utilities, and others involved in the process
- Develop a team that is continually growing through training, support, and the needed growth capabilities
- Continuous self-learning through webinars, industry workshops, certificates, etc.
- Develop and support team in both technical and behavioral competencies
- Continuously work with the Talent Acquisition team to help a build a strong candidate pipeline
- Determine electrical equipment needs and quantities for development of new power systems
- Engage in power business development and sales activities, both individually and in combination with internal personnel to create market penetration for K&A power services
- Host regular meetings with the staff to communicate goals and accomplishment
- Perform annual performance evaluations and initiates disciplinary action if required for direct reports
- Provide technical support and initiative to help support business development efforts
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or Power Systems is required. MSEE, MBA or Project Management Certifications are preferred
- 12-15+ years of experience in related power delivery field, and a minimum of 3+ years of managing and leading a team
- Software Proficiency - Power System Analytics and planning studies: (e.g., CYME, PSSE, DER, ASPEN, SEM, etc.)
- Ability to collaborate across departments
- Proven track record of sales, development of successful business proposals, and completed projects required
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Must be licensed as a Professional Engineer
