Job description

Position: Director - DeFi

We are seeking applicants for the role of Director - DeFi to be based in the New York office of S&P Global Ratings.

The Team:

The DeFi team has responsibility for developing a comprehensive business and strategic approach to Decentralized Finance, Blockchain, Web3.0, and the Metaverse across S&P Global. This team collaborates extensively with both internal and external stakeholders, enabling the development of product and client strategies that emanate from the emergence of decentralized finance capabilities. Additionally, the team plays a critical role in identifying and navigating future potential disruption risks as well as identifying and facilitating new investment and partnership opportunities for S&P Global in the dynamic and fast-growing DeFi ecosystem.

  • This is a critical role to enable the successful build-out and execution of a DeFi team strategy
  • Reporting directly to the Chief DeFi Officer, you will help develop and implement strategies to achieve business goals and objectives
  • Be a critical team member in enabling transformational thinking and strategic execution at S&P Global in decentralized markets
  • Stay up to date with industry trends and developments


Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership position, working in partnership with the Chief DeFi Officer and the Head of DeFi Transformation, to build an impactful capability in crypto financial markets and DeFi, including but not limited to client engagement, product ideation, research thought leadership and overall franchise placement in markets.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with a wide range of clients, suppliers, and other external stakeholders
  • Manages relationships with existing customers including business heads or C-Suite executives with the goals of fostering continued use of S&P Global products/platforms or services as well as proposing new products ideas based on their needs.
  • Work effectively across the internal stakeholders to foster product and client strategies.
  • Contribute to defining priorities and implementation/execution of DeFi strategies
  • Credibly champion S&P DeFi capabilities internally and externally to maintain and expand market relevance, presence, and brand.
  • Manage day-to-day operations of the business, including scheduling allocations and project management
  • Help create Key Performance Indicators and dashboards, monitor performance, and prepare budgets and financial reports
  • Identify areas for improvement and implement changes to increase efficiency and profitability
  • Mentor new hires across the DeFi group. You will collaborate and work seamlessly across internal stakeholders across S&P Global, from C-suite level executives to entry-level employees.
  • Leads initiatives and performs process improvement efforts, ensuring efficiency, effectiveness, and consistency for customers and organization.
  • Provides expertise and insight on complex, non-routine problems/tasks.
  • Leads or coordinates project planning, resourcing, staffing, supply and subcontract management, progress reporting, and troubleshooting.
  • Understands how the work of project teams impacts relevant teams or departments.
  • Applies depth and breadth of knowledge of S&P Global businesses and expertise gained through experience. Holds business-specific knowledge to develop business strategies.
  • Remains current on research and trends.
  • Solves complex, non-routine problems encountered in multiple projects/programs using new solutions and market trends.
  • Manages the talent acquisition and development of a team of junior staff supporting multiple products/platforms or services within a business or various businesses.
  • Has broad knowledge of the industry, and the competitive landscape as well as deep specialized knowledge of S&P Global businesses and products. Is an expert for a specific product/platform specialty with the specific mission of understanding how the S&P Global products/services can solve market problems. Identifies and resolves complex problems in business and product development to improve revenue generation and business growth. Solves problems using in-depth industry expertise.
  • Works regularly with regional business leads, internal partners as well as C-Suite executives in other organizations to develop new product/platform ideas. Participates in professional associations, conferences, and other external activities.
  • Impacts the results of an important part of the business by implementing and monitoring the business plan for a group of products/platforms.


What We're Looking For:
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration or related field.
  • Master's Degree/ MBA or equivalent experience in business management is preferred.
  • 15 + years experience in business and project management
  • An independent, proactive, and globally minded corporate entrepreneur able to strategically help develop and execute a strategy
  • A crypto market participant with a deep understanding of the disruption it represents both for our company and our customers.
  • An innovative and creative approach that can work effectively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders
  • An enthusiastic self-learner, staying up to date with the fast-moving developments in the constantly evolving DeFi world.
  • Extensive understanding of S&P Global businesses and products, as well as a solid foundation in crypto finance and DeFi
  • Strong software fluency including Microsoft office suite of products and data visualization software


Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrable experience in successful corporate entrepreneurship
  • Demonstrable experience in successfully selecting vendors for partnership and acquisitions.
  • Strong leadership and management skills
  • Excellent communication and people skills
  • Proficiency in financial management and budgeting
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines

Compensation/Benefits Information (This section is only applicable to US candidates):

S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $107,100 to $212,975. Final base salary for this role will be based on the individual's geographic location, as well as experience level, skill set, training, licenses, and certifications.

In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for an annual incentive plan. This role is not eligible for additional compensation such as an annual incentive bonus or sales commission plan.
