Director, BIKE HSS
Special Events, Development Department

Overview:
The Director of BIKE HSS oversees planning, fundraising, , and execution of BIKE HSS, an annual peer-to-peer cycling fundraising event. This includes both a ride (with two routes) and a start/finish line festival. The Director will oversee and direct all aspects of BIKE HSS, including email fundraising and communications; rider recruitment, management, and engagement; corporate sponsorship program development and corporate team management; marketing and social media; community engagement; staff and volunteer management; collateral design and branding;, management of vendors and contracts, and contract execution; and event production and logistics.
The Director will work closely and collaboratively with Service Line fundraisers and Directors of Development to engage BIKE HSS physician leaders and physician riders to maximize grateful patient fundraising. The Director will collaborate with members of the Development Operations team on gift processing, budgeting, and constituent data management, and the Development Communications and Digital Fundraising team on all fundraising and stewardship communications. Additionally, the Director will have management responsibility, managing and mentoring the Manager of Rider Engagement and Communications, as well as new positions that will be created as the event grows. The Director will also manage the relationship with the ride production consultant who is responsible for all ride and venue logistics, including routing, permitting, signage, staffing, ride management, safety, etc.
The Director will cultivate and steward important relationships with event leadership, HSS physician teams, corporate sponsors/partners, and HSS athlete partners. The Director will develop and execute a plan to increase rider and team participation, increase donor and rider retention, expand upon an existing marketing plan to include e-marketing, grassroots marketing, and marketing collateral, in order to ensure the success of this ambitious growth opportunity.
The right candidate will have a strategic growth mindset, while being detail oriented, bringing a high level of energy and enthusiasm to leading Bike HSS.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee internal physician participation and fundraising management, coordinating with Development fundraisers
- Maximize the involvement of the Physician Fundraising Committee leadership and create an internal communication plan to grow and retain physician participants
- Plan, implement, and grow a rider recruitment and retention strategy
- Plan, implement, and grow a community engagement strategy
- Develop and implement a corporate sponsorship strategy, including creating recruitment materials and impact reports, planning and attending on-site tabling events, etc.
- Manage the peer-to-peer fundraising platform at BikeHSS.org and ensure all information is kept current and messaging is compelling and effectively positioned
- Manage BIKE HSS vendors and consulting relationships and review, negotiate, approve and process all vendor contracts, in collaboration with HSS legal and insurance departments
- Prepare and manage budgets and oversee the processing of invoices and check requests
- Coordinate with the Development Operations team to ensure all BIKE HSS gifts are processed, acknowledged, and correctly credited
- Oversee the design, copy, and production of all program/event collateral, including printed material, email communications, signage, incentives and giveaways, etc.
- Recruit and manage event volunteer base
- Collaborate closely with colleagues both within the Development Department, and across the organization
- Expand current event model into a year-round program of fundraising, marketing, and communication focused on rider and donor engagement and retention
- Participate in the strategic planning process for the growth of the BIKE HSS program to include re-branding, mission messaging, participant testimonials, impact reporting, etc.
- Fulfill other duties as needed
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree
- Minimum of 5 years of event management experience in a leadership role required
- Peer-to-peer fundraising event management experience highly desired
Competencies and Personal Characteristics:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Superior organizational skills, accuracy and precision in handling details
- Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office and a database management system, such as Raiser's Edge
- Flexibility to participate in evening/weekend events and to travel, as needed
- Positive can-do attitude
- Dedication to advancing the mission of HSS
