Job description

What You Will Do

Come join a team of staff that will be working to digitize, index and digitally curate one of the most mission-critical physical collections at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). You will be on a team, deployed to the Weapons Production Directorate, working for the National Security Research Center (NSRC) - Digital Collections (DC) Group. The information you digitize, and index will have an immediate impact to the Laboratory's mission.

You will be working in coordination with one of the largest libraries in the Federal Government, the NSRC. The NSRC is LANL's classified library, containing tens of millions of documents, films, books, and other archival material related to the development, testing and production of nuclear weapons, dating back to the first days of the Manhattan Project. The NSRC's collections contain a breadth of classified technical information related to physics, chemistry, engineering, material science, intelligence, and national security. We are looking for an individual with education and experience in handling, digitizing, indexing, tracking, storing, and transmission of electronic and hard copy documentary materials.

As a Library Professional 1 you will digitize different types of materials, from the Weapons Production's physical collections, and construct metadata/indexing information that will be used to develop a robust catalog. You will also conduct quality control of digital images and metadata. Media that you will work with include paper, microfilm, microfiche, motion picture film, video, and others. You will also occasionally assist librarians to upload digitized materials into the Online Vault, the NSRC customer access database, assist archivists to improve organization and tracking of archived materials and provide information to fulfill customer research requests.
