Under the general direction of the Patient Care Administrator, the Cook helps to meet the nutritional needs of the patient by preparing appetizing and nutritional meals under the daily direction of the Lead Cook.
Prepares meals in accordance with approved menus.
• Interacts with the Director of Patient Care Services and nursing staff to ensure food service needs are being met.
• Ensure state and federal regulations are followed including the maintenance of a clean, safe environment for the storage, preparation and handling of food including but not limited to OSHA and Health Department regulations.
• Collaborates effectively with the nursing staff concerning special patient needs, diets, and their wants that enrich the quality of care for hospice patients in a compliant manner.
• Purchases food and supplies and completes maintains an adequate inventory.
• Manage related expenditures in a fiscally responsible manner.
• Handles food in a clean and safe manner to prevent contamination.
• Store food in an organized and safe manner to prevent spoilage.
• Washes dishes and cleans the kitchen after food preparation and storage.
• Prepares food for special hospice events and supports these events as needed.
• Inspects all equipment daily and reports any hazardous situations to the immediate supervisor.
• Performs scheduled cleaning of kitchen equipment as assigned.
• Successfully complete the annually, required in-services as assigned.
• Participate in QAPI program as appropriate.
• Attends regular staff meetings as scheduled.
• Display critical thinking skills to problem solve and manage patient and family issues according to Hospice and Standard of Practice and HGI policies and procedures.
• Inform supervisor of unusual, problematic patient/family issues.
• Participate in emergency disaster processes as defined by HGI policies.
• Demonstrates familiarity with HGI policies/procedures and follows state and federal regulatory requirements.
• Performs assignments as directed.
High school education or equivalent with 1-2 years of commercial food preparation experience desired.
Knowledge of Health Department and OSHA regulations related to kitchen maintenance an operation preferred. Must have the ability to work alone or with a team, and possess good interpersonal and communication skills. Must have a current driver's license and clear motor vehicle report.
