Job description

Mission Statement: Hope House Colorado (HHC) empowers parenting teenage moms to achieve personal and economic self-sufficiency and to understand their significance in God's sight, resulting in a healthy future for them and for their children.

Position Title: Development Relations Officer

Exemption Status: Salaried Exempt

Reports To: Director of Development (DOD)

Salary Range: $48,000 - $64,000 (based on experience)

Work Environment: This position is part of a professional team that is highly productive and knows how to work and have fun together. We are united by our passion for empowering disadvantaged teen momsThis role is expected to work 40 hours/week on the HHC campus, except when offsite for HHC work-related purposes. Existing schedule is 8 hours per day Monday - Friday; however, this role will be required to work some scheduled evenings and weekends, including required Development events.

Position Summary: The Development Relations Officer (DRO) works with the Director of Development (DOD) on all aspects of donor relations, annual giving campaigns, and individual gifts, including mid and major donor relationship building. This position is responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding current and prospective donors (champions). The DRO is assigned certain aspects of event fundraising (5K, Gala Silent Auction), as well as other income streams for the organization. The DRO is responsible for placing and stewarding the Development Volunteers for the Development Team. The DRO represents Hope House publicly at speaking opportunities and has the opportunity to share with champions the grace of God shown through His work at Hope House Colorado, and to give champions an opportunity to experience relationship with God through their giving.

Requirements

  • Must have a valid driver's license and current automobile insurance
  • Must pass a criminal background check, driving record check, and drug screen
  • Must be committed to Hope House Colorado's Core Values and continually working towards the HHC mission
  • Must be willing to complete training for ServSafe Certification, to supervise volunteers and champions in the commercial kitchen
  • Must be willing to be trained in Mission Increase Foundation's Transformational Giving Principles
  • Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to work well with others
  • Exercises good judgement in a variety of situations

Desired Skills and Attributes:
  • Excellent written, verbal and in-person communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications, Raiser's Edge database experience a plus
  • 2-3 years of experience in nonprofit Development work with donors
  • 2-3 years of experience in event planning
  • Demonstrated relationship building skills
  • Confident public speaking and able to express ideas verbally and in writing

Education or Training: Bachelor's degree preferred.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

CHAMPIONS:

Champion philosophy: Utilizing Mission Increase's «Transformational Giving » principles, our goal is to move prospective Champions from initial interaction with the organization to engagement with our cause through volunteer opportunities, activities, and other events, eventually becoming champions of our cause. The key to our success is relationship with our champions and their willingness to engage their own networks.

Champion Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for 150+ Mid-level Champions and moving them from participating (Ps) to engaged (Es) to ownership (Os) in the Hope House mission and cause. Engaging other Development Team members in the donor growth.
  • Builds relationships with Champions thru individual meetings, coffee dates and lunches.
  • Supports and participates in GenHope and Development Committee of the Board.
  • Works closely with Director of Development and Executive Director on moving identified donors to Major Champions.
  • Leads bi-weekly Prospect Review meetings with development team.
  • Engages new donors in tours, volunteer opportunities and next steps with the organization.
  • Represents Hope House publicly through speaking engagements and attending community events and donor engagement following events
  • Works with Volunteer Manager to place, manage and appreciate Development Volunteers (i.e., Database volunteers, event volunteers, etc.,). May assist with volunteer appreciation dinner.

Income Streams:
  • Handles appreciation process and engage champions for In Memory gifts and In Honor of gifts.
  • Responsible for oversight of champion-hosted small events. Develops and manages a tactical plan to make these events repeatable annual events. Stewards these Hope House champions and handles all aspects of appreciation. Engages other Development Team staff to handle coverage of these events.
  • Responsible for Church relations for the organization, fundraising, supply drives, and volunteers.
  • Responsible for meeting fundraising goal for gift cards.
  • Responsible for growing income from mid and major donor pool to meet key donor income streams.
  • Responsible for adding new Bedrock Builders (monthly givers) and the stewardship of existing monthly donors.

Events:
  • Responsible for Hope House 5K (350-450 runners/walkers) including sponsorships, P2P fundraising, marketing, vendor village, racing company, city officials, F & B vendors, swag bag vendors, security and medical. Responsible for use of POE (Program of Events) and budget.
  • Responsible for Gala Silent Auction solicitation, pre-bidding, stewardship and working with auction company to ensure auction goals are met. Oversees auction volunteers in procurement, marketing, night of sales, appreciation and stewardship of donors.

Database & Admin Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for adding new contacts, recording meetings, actions, appreciation calls, and making new actions in Raiser's Edge.
  • Update proposals for gifts and sponsorships.
  • Maintain and update Development Relations Officer Handbook.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Promote the values of HHC throughout the organization and external relationships
  • Attend team and organizational meetings, activities, and events
  • Input relevant data into Development and Program databases
  • Collaborate with HHC staff and perform job duties to advance the organization's mission and vision

Supervisory Duties: No staff members report directly to this position.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, and walk as well as bend, squat, and climb stairs. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Benefits: HHC benefits are available to employees who consistently work a minimum of 24 hours a week. Benefits offered are subject to change at HHC's sole discretion.
  • Health Benefits: Employees may elect medical, dental, vision & life insurance plans.
  • Simple IRA: Employees may choose to make salary reduction contributions through HHC's Simple IRA plan and HHC will match the employee's contribution up to a maximum of 3% of the employee's annual salary.
  • Vacation: Upon hire, employees earn 6 hours of vacation per paycheck up to 120 hours (3 weeks) in a year. Accruals are adjusted to increase vacation earned per hours worked based on length of employment with HHC.
  • Holidays: HHC observes eleven (11) holidays throughout the year. Salaried employees are paid for these holidays according to the nationally recognized observation day for each holiday. In addition, salaried employees are currently gifted either the week of Christmas or the week of New Year's off, to be scheduled at the discretion of their supervisor.
  • Sick Leave: HHC provides eligible employees with Paid Sick and Safe Leave (PSSL) and Public Health Emergency Leave (PHEL) in accordance with the requirements of Colorado's Healthy Families and Workplaces Act (HFWA).
