Job Description:Workshops for Warriors® (www.wfw.org) is a nonprofit founded in 2008. Its mission is to place veterans and wounded warriors into advanced manufacturing careers by providing them with industry-leading training, nationally recognized credentials, work experience, and job placement. Training is provided at no cost to veterans. We are rebuilding America’s advanced manufacturing workforce, one veteran at a time with a team of passionate, enthusiastic professionals who want to make a difference in the lives of those we serve, their families, and our country. Reporting to the CEO, the Deputy Chief Academic Officer (DCAO) oversees the Workshops for Warriors (WFW) educational program and serves on the WFW executive cabinet. The DCAO directly oversees the Education Division: Curriculum and Instruction Department Recruitment, Enrollment & Financial Aid DepartmentStudent Support and Career Services Department, Division’s Administrative Staff. The DCAO is the leader of the academic programs for the school and works to evaluate instructional programs that engage all students in learning to meet their academic and career goals, ensure that WFW provides the best academic experience possible, while meeting long-term financial goals. Effective academic leadership helps students achieve their dreams and can help WFW deliver a consistent, well-rounded academic experience. The DCAO by playing this key role in meeting the outlined goals will be instrumental in shaping the next generation’s minds and skills every semester. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesThese points are identified as essential, but are not limited to the following:Overall Summary The DCAO develops curricula, sets academic standards, and works with faculty and staff to ensure standards are met, while leading in the design of ways to engage students in and out of the classroom. Additionally, will ensure that each program’s academic strategies comply with accreditation, while seeking new programs and accreditations. In addition to overseeing WFW’s academics the DCAO financial responsibilities include setting budgets, ensuring the recruitment and enrollment staff meet or exceed enrollment targets, housing services and career services by collaborating with the CFO. Similarly, collaborating with the operations’ department will ensure that the facility meet the physical needs such as safety, cleanliness, technology, and environmental needs by functioning at above average quality at all times. Faculty and staff are a key component to the success of the programs offered by WFW. Leading and developing the Education Division’s personnel include the designing and implementing long-term performance and succession goals, and innovative development opportunities. The DCAO’s duties center on providing students and staff with an optimal experience. They can not only impact students already on campus but also help attract future students; they not only impact current team members but attract future team members. Ultimately, the DCAO personally and through the Education Division staff ensure WFW provide a high-quality, equitable, valuable experiences, ready to help shape the minds of students and employees eager to follow their career dreams.Strategic LeadershipArticulate the vision for the future of Workshops for Warriors and our Advanced Manufacturing Training/Learning Model.Participate in the process to identify, evaluate, and develop the next opportunities for Workshops for Warriors’ expansion. This will include framing an academic vision for indirect impact and a Workshops for Warriors “playbook” for expansion. Identify key products, processes, and systems that can be documented and adapted for use in different locations as well as a “Train the Trainer” blueprint suitable for national expansion of the Workshops for Warriors model.Represent Workshops for Warriors at conferences and events.Grow Workshops for Warriors’ relationship with the Department of Education, Department of Defense, Department of Labor, Department of Veteran Affairs as well as national and local educational institutions. Liaisons with MCRD, 32nd Street, North Island, NAB, Coast Guard District Five, Camp Pendleton, 29 Palms, Edwards AFB, and other local and regional military bases to build relationships.Recruitment, Enrollment, and Financial AidResponsible ensuring the organization meets or exceed enrollment targets.Responsible for monitoring inquiry generation and quality of inquiries.Monitors progress towards enrollment goals. Makes data driven decisions to ensure enrollment goals are met.Responsible for developing and implementing the recruitment event calendar to include new recruitment events, open houses, open campus days, and webinars.Develop, implement and recruiting strategies that are goal/metric based, that are repeatable and success oriented.Develop, strengthen, and document relationships with SKILLBRIDGE points of contact within the region and nationIdentify potential markets, evaluate competition, and develop strategies to meet emerging needs. Maintain knowledge of academic programs, including curricula, admissions requirements, and financial aid programs.Accreditation and Instructor and Curriculum DevelopmentObtain, maintain, and document program and institutional accreditation.Chair institutional and occupational advisory committees.Sit on advisory boards to represent WFW on local, regional, and national occupational and educational committees and boards on behalf of the CEO.Build and train an outstanding team of academic team leaders, course facilitators, and curriculum developers drawing on both local and national talent. Oversee the development of curricula for all academic subjects.Oversee the professional development of all academic staff.Oversee educational activities both strategic and operational, including metrics to track and evaluate progress. Oversee the On-the-Job Training Program and ensure that weekly performance reports are provided by the OJT provider.In collaboration with the CEO and Director of Operations, ensure facilities, equipment, and materials meet the needs of the organization.Compliance, Record-keeping, and ReportingServes as an institutional program subject-matter expert for the Department of Veterans Affairs, including all applicable federal, state, and institutional regulations and administrative responsibilities.Serves as an institutional program subject-matter expert for the Department of Education, including all applicable federal, state, and institutional regulations and administrative responsibilities.Serves as an institutional program subject-matter expert for the Bureau of Post Secondary Private Education, including all applicable state and institutional regulations and administrative responsibilities.Student Support and Career ServicesEnsures student entrance and exit surveys are distributed for the purpose of collecting data, including student credentials and certification; student job offers, employment, and job retention. Ensures proper attendance tracking and special requests are tracked.Serves as the students’ point of contact for any grievances or needs; communicates and works appropriately with senior management to address or resolve such needs as needed.Ensures student in hardship received resources for any wrap-around services needed, including housing or stipend issues, and coordinates with outside organizations as required to help students receive maximum benefit from available programs.Oversee Job Fairs and build relationships with employers.Ensures active job listings of companies requesting graduates to include (if possible) position descriptions, starting wages, point of contact information, starting date, and location of job. Oversee student workshops (career readiness, financial education, and transition). All other duties as assigned. Qualifications and Work ExperienceTo perform this job successfully, the candidate must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily (with or without an accommodation). The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Master’s degree is the minimum requirement for the role, a terminal degree, such as an EdD is a plus. 7+ years of school administrative experience.A track record of leading collaborative groups and teams.Expert knowledge in designing academic/skill-trades programs for students. Preferred Skills and KnowledgeResponsible for a full range of activities which ensure the operational effectiveness and excellence of the Education Division of WFW. An effective DCAO needs to possess strong leadership skills. These skills help an individual provide decisive guidance to faculty and other department leaders. This guidance can ultimately lead WFW’s ability to help students succeed. Strong analytical skills are also fundamental. The DCAO needs to monitor how cultural and socioeconomic changes may impact the academic process and develop effective student recruitment and retention strategies in response. Other essential skills include the following:Strong math skills: understanding of accounting transactions for multiple entities and allocations as the DCAO role is responsible for finance and budgeting of each department. Interpersonal and communication skills are crucial to their close work with faculty and staff. Attention to detail is another valuable skill.Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a busy office environment. Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously. Self-starter with strong follow through and problem-solving skills. Good judgment and ability to learn new things quickly. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel and Word. Salesforce and QuickBooks is a plus.Able to respond appropriately to constructive feedback from executive management.Strong team player and able to work effectively in a team environment.Self-starter with exceptional ability to identify and solve problems.Able to adjust to the rapid pace of the department and meet deadlines without sacrificing quality.Able to occasionally work evenings or weekends in order to complete objectives.Become an expert with our management systems and prepare reporting tools to assist that client expectations are being met and implementing internal controls. Highly organized with strong attention paid to detail and accuracy.Must be proficient in software tools, including but not limited to Word, Excel, Outlook, and the Internet.Must possess strong written and verbal communications skills.Identifies and solves issues in a timely manner.Must be a team player and willing to help others in their department whenever necessary.Must be extremely organized and be able to multi-task.Takes initiative in face of obstacles and identifies what needs to be done and takes action. Overall good work ethic and willingness to adapt to change. Important Notes Position Details: This is a full-time, salaried (exempt) position (40+ hours/week). Pay: The annual rate of pay range for this California-based position is $115,000-$150,000.00. The actual compensation offer, and opportunity may not include incentive compensation or other total rewards available.
