The Division of Epidemiology within the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Utah, seeks a Database Analyst to review, evaluate, design, implement and maintain databases. The position identifies data sources, constructs data decomposition diagrams, provides data flow diagrams, and documents the process. This individual will write codes for database access, modification, and constructions including stored procedures as well as develop analytic databases from health system data, with a primary focus on data preparation and analysis of Veterans Administration (VA) data for policy and program evaluations. The incumbent will support research projects associated with the TORCH Lab led by Dr. Mary Jo Pugh ( https://medicine.utah.edu/internal-medicine/epidemiology/research-programs/torch). 

This position has no responsibility for providing care to patients. 

Responsibilities
  • Compiles data from a variety of sources for the purpose of developing databases from primary and secondary data.
  • Reviews, evaluates, designs, implements and maintains databases.
  • Identifies data sources, constructs data decomposition diagrams, provides data flow diagrams, generates data dictionaries, and documents the process.
  • Writes codes for database access, modifications, and constructions including storage procedures.
  • Supports senior research staff in project management.
  • Updates existing databases to better serve the research projects.
  • Is responsible for maintaining data-related regulatory requirements needed for the University of Utah, Department of Veterans Affairs, and Department of Defense, to name but a few.
  • Assists in the preparation of manuscripts and presentation materials.
  • Edits project reports and publication materials.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a bachelor's degree in a related area or equivalency and 2-4 years of experience in the field or in a related area.

Preferences
  • Experience with health sciences and/or experience with Veterans. 
  • At least two years of related experience in research and background in engineering, math, clinical informatics, or computer science
