This is a very highly engaged dept. We are 5 coordinators and 3 data support teammates that work very well together.
Major Responsibilities:
- Collaborates with other staff members and/or physicians to develop, test, and implement effective data collection processes using databases to provide information on clinically significant measures/indicators.
- Performs accurate review of department's most complex clinical records to secure data for ongoing performance improvement and/or care management/quality initiatives, as needed. Abstracts data directly into computer or forwards for appropriate data entry.
- May function as a system administrator for assigned database(s) to audit database functionality and assign and train new users.
- Documents technical problems to Information Services in formats understandable to both technical support and quality improvement. Writes, updates and maintains user procedures for decision support tools and databases and may provide training to end users regarding support systems.
- Maintains an updated knowledge of and utilizes existing decision support tools and/or complex databases to develop reports using specific data queries to obtain data and formulate reports. Creates reports using appropriate parameters to assist clinicians in meeting quality goals.
- Creates, organizes and analyzes advanced data reports and/or presentation material using graphics and presentation software in a variety of systems to assist in financial and quality improvement activities throughout the system, as needed.
- Performs preliminary analysis of collected data using spreadsheets and/or statistical process control tools.
- Maintains data systems, executes updates, enhancements and corrections, as appropriate, to support Aurora's efforts in cost and quality data reporting to all required external entities.
- Maintains the accuracy and integrity of data used in financial and quality improvement decision making throughout the organization.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:
- None Required.
Education Required:
- Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent knowledge) in Quality Management.
Experience Required:
- Typically requires 3 years of experience in a health care setting in medical records, in-patient care, quality or care management and experience working with computers and windows base software, particularly word processing, spreadsheet, graphics and relational database applications.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Operational understanding of database terms and functionality. Experience with query and report writing tools and coding.
- Demonstrated analytical skills to conduct studies, analyze and interpret data. Ability to organize, troubleshoot efficiently and effectively.
- Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access) or similar products).
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work with time constraints.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to review the medical record, medical terminology. Data familiarity (Excel, report building, presentation, etc)
- Detail oriented with a high degree of accuracy and accountability.
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment. Data needs come in quickly and need fast turn around time to help adjust performance improvement work.
