The Information Control Department (ICDAD) of the Chief Data Officer (CDO) works with groups and businesses across Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation Americas Division (SMBCAD) on a wide range of initiatives that ensure the control, quality, and availability of business data supporting front office efforts, data analytics, management decisions, and regulatory control.
As part of SMBCs global ambition to become more data led, we are looking to hire an experienced Director level resource to join the Americas Division Party and Reference Data Domains. At SMBC, Party data includes Customer, Counterparty, Employee and Vendor data; Reference data includes Currency, Country, and Industry schemes. The role will assist the Enterprise Party and Reference Data Management Executive in implementing the Organization's Data Governance and Transformation plans across the Americas Division Party and Reference Data Domains. This includes working with cross-functional data leads to properly define terms, identify the correct data stewards and owners of these terms, identify the source of record and authoritative data sources of these terms and work with the business to document and solve any of their data issues. It also includes working with our technology partners to ensure the proper technology is implemented to support strategic data management and governance initiatives.
This exciting new role will be responsible for supporting the effective delivery of both short-term tactical solutions and longer-term strategic initiatives. The successful candidate will have research, problem-solving, and organizational skills with the ability to multi-task. He / She has a passion for data, takes ownership, works independently, and can communicate and collaborate effectively within the team and across a wide range of business, technical and operational stakeholders at all levels of management.
The anticipated salary range for this role is between $213,000 and $237,000. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities:
- Strategic transformation of SMBC's Party, Reference, and Market Data domains
- Compile and analyze large volumes of data, identify any patterns and inconsistencies, document findings as necessary
- Drive implementation of data quality rules and data cleanup efforts in collaboration with Data Governance Operations, Local Data Officers (LDOs) and Front Office partners
- Lead with requirements gathering documentation, validation testing, data modeling and data lineage for the bank's strategic master data management (MDM) platform
- Manage a workflow queue of updates to master / reference data management data sets
- Champion SOR/ADS adoption of Party, Reference, and Market Data domains
- Support the ongoing accuracy of Party and Reference Key Data Elements (KDEs) terms, definitions, and metadata in the firm's data governance catalog
- Ensure compliance to ICDAD's master / reference data management governance framework
- Identify and ratify Key Data Elements (KDEs) in the Party, Reference Data & Workforce domains
- Track and facilitate the resolution of issues involving Party and Reference data use and quality
- Organize and maintain key documentation and project deliverables
The Successful Candidate:
- Deep understanding of and previous experience with party, reference and/or market data management transformation projects.
- Proven ability to extracting large volumes of data for source-to-target comparison and analysis. Use fact patterns to identify, escalate, remediate, and monitor data quality issues.
- Demonstrates an understanding of data management concepts - data quality, data lineage, data lifecycle, master/reference data management, metadata management.
- Strong analytic, problem solving and logical reasoning skills with high attention to detail and the ability to multi-task.
- Ability to influence people outside the immediate span of control, negotiate and resolve conflicts, and work with Front Office business users, IT partners and External vendors.
- Experience in writing and understanding SQL queries. Data modeling is a plus.
- Is a team player who is energized by a rapidly evolving and growing environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to articulate concepts and ideas to diverse audiences
Highly desired:
- 10+ years' experience in data management and governance best practices
- Will have worked in a large corporate setting focused on master / reference data management
- Hands-on experience with SQL; data analysis and reporting tools such as Alteryx and Power BI is a plus
Education
- BA/BS degree with a strong academic track record.
Travel
- Willing to work a hybrid schedule with a home base office in White Plains NY. Able to travel as needed to SMBC offices in New York City and Harborside New Jersey.
