General Summary

We are searching for a Data Governance Analyst to join our company for this exciting opportunity to assist a federal agency CDO team to define and execute a new enterprise data governance program. In this hands-on position, you will support federal staff to develop and implement data governance policies, support data literacy activities and champion the value of data governance across the enterprise. You are part communication specialist and part project planner with a passion for developing engaging materials and facilitating stakeholder interactions to support the agency data governance PMO team. About the Role

The Data Governance Analyst will be a hands-on execution role joining our Data Governance Program Management Office supporting mission work for one of our federal agency clients. Your skills toolkit should include a basic understanding of data management best practices and/or data maturity frameworks, or analytics in an enterprise environment. You have a passion for organizing information, communicating concepts visually, and take pride in the detail. You bring proficient skills developing high quality deliverable and work products with Office 365 tools. You will support the Data Governance Lead/Project Manager in this client-facing role, you will facilitate governance meetings, develop agendas, prepare meeting outbriefs, track project status, coordinate invitations and communicate directly with stakeholders. You will maintain and curate the Chief Data Officer’s MS Project Team Site, and support policy and training development deliverables. You will work closely with data stewards and other client stakeholders to support development and documentation of data policies and develop compelling, high-quality slides, infographics, and visual process depictions for related work products.

 

Job Duties

  • Support the Project Manager (PM) with tasks required to coordinate, facilitate, and conduct productive, engaging governance meetings (online and/or in person) with agency stakeholders.
  • Maintain the Chief Data Officer’s Microsoft Teams site providing enterprise one stop shop for data management communications and resources.
  • Provide communications support for the enterprise data literacy program.
  • Advise the PM and senior stakeholders on communication and data management best practices (e.g., data stewardship, data access, data standards, etc.).
  • Design and lead stakeholder data governance meetings (e.g., executive council, data stewards’ council, data community of practice, etc.) including developing meeting agendas, capturing notes and action items, and developing out briefs.
  • Collaborate with business partners, technical partners, and representatives from other organizations to identify and capture business requirements and inputs into deliverable design and maintenance.
  • Collaborate with team to assess the current state of data management process capabilities, define future state needs, identify gaps, and make strategic recommendations for improvements.
  • Support data governance deliverable development, support analysis and documentation of data governance and data operations processes and policies.
  • Drive the documentation of processes in accordance with defined enterprise standards, procedures, and controls.
  • Engage with business and technical stakeholders to better understand needs and support data management process improvement initiatives
  • Provide clear, concise writing on technical topics for non-technical audiences.
  • Champion data governance best practices.
  • Communicate effectively with a broad range of constituents.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong communication and analytical skills
  • Exceptional skills in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel (Office 365 and MS Teams)
  • Strong organization and ability to meet deadlines while working on several projects simultaneously
  • Effective interpersonal skills, including the ability to build positive relationships
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
  • Ability to work well independently and in a team environment
  • Familiarity with data governance and data management practices and frameworks (e.g., DMBOK, DMM, CRISP-DM etc.)
  • Skills and experience in writing business and functional requirements or project communication materials
  • Skills in quantitative analysis

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution; 3 years of relevant experience supporting enterprise data analytics, data governance or similar technology projects.
  • Ability to work for any employer in the US without sponsorship
  • Active or ability to obtain a 5(c) public trust clearance; US Citizenship required

Beneficial Qualifications

  • Data Management Association (DAMA) Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) or willingness to achieve certification
  • Prior consulting/client-facing experience supporting federal government agency projects
  • Working knowledge of the Evidence Act, Federal Data Strategy and Federal Information Business Framework for Grants management or similar programs
  • Statistical programming knowledge using Stata, SAS, or R

Location

  • This position may be considered for Remote work. AEM has office locations in Herndon, VA and Camarillo, CA and currently has employees working across 26 states. Project requires ability to periodically travel to client site in Washington, DC to support key meetings.
