Job Description

Job Summary:

The part-time CT/Radiology Technologist will provide services at a medical facility in a Native American/American Indian community in Fort Yates, ND. This is a one-year contract working 1 to 3 days per week as needed. Shifts could be day, evening, weekends, and on-call depending on agreement with supervisor.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Independently perform computerized axial tomographic scanning, fluoroscopy and general imaging (X-ray) of the head and body, to include IVP, barium swallow, cystograms, and operation of C-arm during surgical procedures, as well as perform a variety of over 500 standard radiographic diagnostic and fluoroscopic procedures. The contractor shall secure confidence of patients, practices proper handwashing and shields patients with appropriate protection.
  • Check in patients, schedule patients, receive patients, explain procedures to the patients, and transfer patients to exam table and back to where they came from, if needed.
  • Perform intravenous cannulation for purpose of IV Contrast injections. The contractor shall monitor injection and recognize any complication of injections.
  • Assist physicians and radiologists in the administering of opaque media for prescribed CT scans and radiographic exams.
  • Upon order of the health care provider, produce quality diagnostic images for use in diagnosing medical problems in a hospital or clinic setting. Use knowledge of anatomy, physiology, patient positioning and radiographic techniques and protocols in the technical performance of medical imaging procedures.
  • Conform to regulations to prevent unnecessary radiation exposure for patient, self and others by surrounding the exposed area with radiation protection devices such as lead shields, or limiting the size of the x-ray beam.
  • Modify radiographic procedures to accommodate for changes in patient conditions, technical factors, types of equipment, contrast media utilized and other variables to produce radiographs of the appropriate density, detail, and contrast.
  • Evaluate digital radiographs for optimal diagnostic quality to include positioning, technical factors, legal identification and use of protective devices.
  • Keep patient records. Approve, deliver to archive, and forward digital radiographs to the radiologist in a timely manner. Be familiar with the policy and procedures pertaining to the delivery of radiology services needed.
  • Confer with radiologist for complex and non-standard exams.
  • Assist in giving emergency first aid and if needed, initiates CPR.
  • Participate in all ARRT required QC activities.
  • Maintain logs in accordance with departmental practice.
  • Keep repair and maintenance records in accordance with departmental practice and help in maintaining needed supplies and related record keeping and other minor administrative aspects of care.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Required Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge and skill to operate CT (Computed Tomography) and DR (Digital Radiography) and to provide the basis for a wide variety of specialized medical diagnosis. The knowledge and skill may have been obtained through formal classroom instruction.
  • Knowledge of physical diagnosis and clinical courses of disease. Must be capable of recognizing quality diagnostic films and consulting with the supervisor.
  • Complete knowledge of complex instrumentation utilized to extract the finest quality performance from the equipment.
  • Ability to deviate from normal techniques and/or protocols when necessary and to develop new and better techniques to keep diagnostic capability up to date.
  • Knowledge of radiation protection standards, devices, and techniques.
  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology. Knowledge of methods, techniques, and QI


Education and Experience:
  • Required: Graduate of an accredited program related to radiology field.
  • Required: Minimum twelve (12) months of CT and Radiology Technology experience.
  • Required: Certified and registered through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in CT and XR. Knowledge and skill to operate CT (Computed Tomography) and DR (Digital Radiography).
  • Required: IV certification.
  • Required: Must possess a current, valid, unrestricted license in specialty within a state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a Territory of the United States, throughout the term of this contract.
  • Required: Shall maintain a valid and current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Basic Life Support (BLS) certifications and are mandatory.

Physical Requirements:
  • Work environment involves possible exposure to hazardous materials, such as radiation, chemical, blood, and blood borne pathogens.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds at times and be able to bend, lift and pull.
  • This position requires extended periods of being on your feet and prolonged work sitting at a desk operating a computer.
  • At the time of hire, must provide a fitness for duty certificate issued by a licensed physician to perform the proposed job without significant risk to personal health or the health and safety of others.
  • At the time of hire, must provide documentation of evidence of immunizations as required by the facility's immunization policy.

Drug and Alcohol Testing:

Emergency Response:

Every Chloeta employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites. All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official Duty Station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official Position Description (PD). Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.
