Correctional Industries (CI) within the Department of Corrections (DOC) is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for a permanent CIS 2 - Laundry position. This position is located at Coyote Ridge Corrections Center in Connell, WA and will be working a Monday through Friday schedule from 7:00 am - 3:00 pm.

Training and development opportunitiesCorrectional Industries (CI) is committed to maintain and expand incarcerated worker training programs which develop marketable skills, instill and promote positive work ethics and reduce the tax burden of corrections. This position supports that objective by providing assistance in the supervision and training of incarcerated workers and subordinate staff in the CI Laundry operation at the Washington State Penitentiary. The CIS2 manages the day to day business functions of the laundry and assures quality production excellence. Their primary responsibilities include production reporting, trend tracking, certification proctoring, staff and incarcerated supervision/training of the laundry operation.

Duties may include, but are not limited to:

Responsible for all aspects of a commercial laundry production site:
  • Supervise and train subordinate civilian staff and incarcerated workers in business planning, laundry production scheduling, production reporting, machine programming, preventative maintenance, time keeping, safety and security, budget tracking and purchase requisitioning.
  • Develops annual operating budget; responsible for operating within established budget; maintains control over assigned inventory; controls waste; Accountable for raw material, direct labor and overhead spending relative to realized sales and inventory turns.
  • Determines, plans and schedules production based on a master schedule or customer orders; schedules materials, machinery, and workers to meet completion dates; Capable of operating and maintaining all machinery and equipment required to meet production needs; trains incarcerated workers in the operation/maintenance of equipment; Develops and operates preventative maintenance program for equipment.
Planning and Scheduling:
  • Plans and schedules production/services based on a master schedule; schedules materials, machinery, and workers to meet completion dates and adjust to meet customer demand.
  • Direct and assign incarcerated workers.
  • Utilize quality control measurements to coordinate efforts during production.
  • Coordinate production/scheduling efforts with other staff.
  • Coordinate raw material delivery, finished goods delivery and support services.
  • Develop and operate preventative maintenance schedule for equipment.
  • Monitor and verify SOPs are followed (e.g. identify and report deficiencies, conduct in-process inspections, verify correct raw material usage)
Ensures staff and incarcerated workers receive safety training and adhere to safe work practices:
  • Maintain proper recordkeeping for the DOC Safety Program.
  • Within established timelines review and investigate accident reports to identify what caused the event and recommend preventive measures.
  • Participate in and/or conduct monthly Safety committee/meetings.
  • Document safety and sanitation inspections, as required.
Ensure safe and secure operations:
  • Maintain security and discipline over incarcerated workers in accordance with DOC policy.
  • Account for incarcerated workers in accordance with DOC policy; to include: informal counts, reconciliation of call outs, etc.
  • Execute and maintain tool control processes according to DOC policy; to include: completion of daily tool accountability log, tool add/drops, shadow board, etc.
  • Account for and document the perpetual inventory of consumables items (e.g. blades, drill bits box cutters, etc.).
  • Maintain key control per DOC policy; to include: inspect keys, keep on your person at all times, report discrepancies, etc.
Administrative duties:
  • Maintain accurate timekeeping for incarcerated workers, as required; to include: sign in/sign out within Correctional Industries Time Keeping (CITK), reconcile discrepancies, etc.
  • Prepare incarcerated worker personnel actions (i.e. infractions, onsite corrections, corrective counseling, coaching, expectations, etc.) in accordance with DOC policy.
  • Participate/conduct inventory control and counts.
  • Develops or assists in, the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
Other duties as assigned; including but not limited to:
  • Participates in product management and development teams as assigned.
  • Certified trainers may assist in conducting workforce development training.
  • Support continuous process improvement.
Required Qualifications:
  • At least two (2) years' full time work experience in private industry or as a Correctional Industries Supervisor Assistant (CISA) in commercial/industrial laundry wherein the primary responsibility was laundry production.
OR
  • One (1) year total full time work experience at the CISA level AND one (1) year full time work experience in commercial/industrial laundry wherein the primary responsibility was laundry production.
OR
  • Three (3) years full time work experience supervising employees within the past 15 years in which the supervisory duties included directing work of the employees supervised and providing employee performance feedback in production, manufacturing, or within an institutional setting.
AND
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Computer literate with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office products or equivalent software programs.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills in routine and emergent situations.
  • Ability to develop and promote positive and professional interpersonal relationships.
  • Ability to set and manage priorities.
  • Ability to complete the Association for Linen Management (ALM-CWT) within six (6) months of hire.
Preferred/Desired Qualifications:
  • Basic computer competencies required.
  • Effective oral communication skills in routine and emergent situations.
  • Ability to develop and promote positive and professional interpersonal relationship skills.
  • Ability to perform lead responsibilities over others.
  • Ability to establish priorities for own workload based upon such factors as the need for immediate action, work objectives, work schedule, knowledge of future need, etc.
  • Ability to communicate orally with customers, clients, and the public in face-to-face one-on-one settings, or using a telephone.
Special Requirements/Conditions of Employment:
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
  • Complete a felony disclosure form prior to employment and submit to a criminal background check.
  • Successfully complete, within mandated timeframes, employee orientation and all other mandatory annual, in-service and other required training.
  • Provide physical residential address and home telephone number to the Department of Corrections.
  • Become familiar and comply with all Department policies and procedures and Collective Bargaining Agreements as applicable.
  • Submit to drug testing in accordance with Collective Bargaining Agreement and agency policy.
