About the Department
The 900+ positions of the Facilities Division service the students and staff of the University's teaching, research/administrative space and 2, 240 acres of infrastructure. The Facilities Division provides design and building services, maintenance, custodial, landscape, solid waste removal, utility, mail, and motor pool services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The goal is to deliver cost effective services to the University, ensure completed projects and maintenance that conform to codes and regulations, while minimizing University liabilities and disruptions caused by the maintenance, repair, building, and equipment modifications to the University.
Essential Job Duties
The primary purpose of this position is the overall leadership and management of all facilities related automation systems and oversight of campus-wide quality assurance for both HVAC and the lighting control systems for North Carolina State University.
Responsible for the strategic direction and daily oversight of integrated building automated management systems. This includes all front-end architecture of the web-based systems and all network integration. The incumbent must remain current on emerging technologies and provide technical and budgetary recommendations to senior leadership on the opportunities these technologies provide.
This position is also responsible for the strategic management of building controls technicians. This position is critical to the energy management functions on campus. The position is key to the successful integration of University-wide controls integration programs such as the Campus Enterprise Automation Program and Smart Grid.
This position frequently represents the Facilities Division in University level discussions including master planning, smart building concept development, and building commissioning initiatives. This position directs technical staff in the implementation of responsibilities and provides technical engineering expertise to other University staff.

Qualifications
Minimum Experience/Education
Bachelor's Degree in the Engineering discipline related to the area of assignment and two years of related Engineering experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Architect Supervisor: Bachelor's degree related to the area of assignment and two years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Licensed to practice architecture or landscape architecture by the North Carolina Board of Architecture or the North Carolina Board of Landscape Architects.

Note: This applies only to Facility Management jobs at the Contributing level: Graduation from a technical college with a major in Construction Management Technology, Architectural Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, Building Construction Technology or other related technical degree and four years of progressive experience in industrial or facilities maintenance and/or construction work including some supervisory experience; or five years of progressive experience in Engineering-related work including some supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Other Required Qualifications
- Facility operation and repair experience including building automation and HVAC systems.
- Must have strong mechanical trouble shooting skills for(commercial grade)HVAC systems as well as a thorough understanding of electronic building control system operating principles and best practices.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in the Engineering discipline related to the area of assignment and two years of related Engineering experience.
