Job Overview
We are currently hiring a Construction Quality Assurance (CQA) Field Technician in our Waste & Recycling Division at our Richmond, VA office.
The Waste & Recycling Division at LaBella specializes in providing comprehensive engineering, environmental, and construction phase services to our solid waste clients in the Southeast. We focus on creating sustainable, cost-effective solutions tailored to the specific needs of our clients.
You will be responsible for demonstrating solid waste facilities are constructed in accordance with design plans and specifications and in a manner that is protective of human health and the environment. You will achieve this by collecting data, observing, and providing detailed documentation throughout the construction of solid waste facilities, including landfills, recycling facilities, and transfer stations.

A successful candidate will be a self-motivated outdoors enthusiast and road warrior with the willingness to learn, train, and continue building their knowledge. The candidate will be trustworthy and punctual, have a positive attitude, and possess leadership skills.

The Waste & Recycling Department consists of 52 people, spread across Richmond, VA; Greensboro and Charlotte, NC; Charleston, SC; and Birmingham and Daphne, AL. The Richmond office is nestled among craft breweries, near the baseball stadium and Diversity Thrift. This year, the proceeds from our annual chili cookoff competition are going to the American Heart Association.

Responsibilities
  • Assists engineers and other professionals by performing a variety of testing, project specific observation, and site assessment duties
  • Uses specific methods to observe site activities and take samples and perform tests
  • Works from drawings, specifications, diagrams, schematics, and specific verbal and written instructions
  • Oversees soil testing and liner installation, maintains client relations, and communicates relentlessly
  • Performs inspections, monitors contractor activities, and prepares daily reports
  • Operates equipment, conducts field tests/assessments and reports data
  • Compiles reports and assists in final report writing and submission to State agency
  • This position is based at the construction site, outdoors, may include long work hours and potential for weekend work
Qualifications
  • 0 to 5 years of experience
  • General understanding of construction practices
  • Experience in construction monitoring, synthetic liner installation, soils testing preferred
  • Some education in engineering, geology, environmental science, or similar field preferred
  • Troxler nuclear density certification preferred
  • Must possess an inherent attention to detail
  • Must be willing to travel for extended periods of time
  • Must have ability to work unsupervised
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite
  • Applicant will be required to pursue certification as part of position requirements; costs of certification will be borne by LaBella
